Cold air intake works, however....

I'm getting way more air, and to compensate, i'm using way more fuel. I went from 17 to 11 mpg. I thought cold air intake gave you better gas mileage, but all its doing is flooding my engine with gas. How do i get the mpg's back and not loose my new found pickup?

Thats not good....
Maybe reset your computer, I thought you had to reset your MAF or something anyways so it could re-adjust...

OH ****, i didn't disconnect and reconnect the battery after i switched back from stock again. So just disconnect battery for ten minutes, then next time I drive it it should be ok?

Yea, I hear some people say 10, some say 30, so just disconnect it for 10 or 30 lol, then id start it up and let her idle for a few minutes, then maybe take her around the block lol.


Dont feel stupid, im sure a ton of people installed a CAI and didnt do that LOL, thats something id do for sure.

You will never get more performance without using more gas... or at least I have never seen difinitive proof that anyone has got more performance from an engine and also got better fuel economy.

That is a big difference. I never disconnected the battery when I changed mine, and everything was ok, but since then I have replaced the battery, so maybe that helped, lol

Actually that's not always true there is one example. The SR-71 blackbird got it's best fuel economy at top speed. Though I kind of doubt any explorer will ever reach high enough speeds that it could turn the intake into a ramjet.

As far as better mpg at WOT (top speed) from a blackbird, let me know when one of your x's breaks the sound barrier The only way to increase HP and MPG is to increase an engines volumetric efficiency, which really won't be achieved by CAI.

all i did was change my air filter to a k&n round type and used some gasket maker stuff to attach it to the MAF resulting in an open air box, it ran a hell of alot better back when it was cold outsidem ive noticed a huge difference between driving during these hot 95 degree summer days and back when it was 50 and below out. even in the mornings or at night when its cooler i have a noticeable difference with power...dont know what would cause this...but to the point..i have gotten worse gas mileage since putting this air filter on and leaving the air box open...

Fxed, it went from 16.8 to 21.7 mpg!!!
