colindo94 fullwidth swap

Ok I found an axle and I need to get it as soon as I can. I just want to know if it will work for my setup. Its a DANA 44 out of a 76 f150/ranger. He said its a 3/4 ton axle. Reverse rotation Axle. Still has the radius arm tabs still attached. So will it work????

there is a JY in Linda, I believe its called Andersons on feather river blvd...I was just out there, they have a ton of axles lying ducks in a row...several 1rst gen ex's too

Can't seem to find that JY. Any info on the axle I found. I would like to pick it up tonight and its in the bay area.

not sure if this is in reference to me....but if so its easy, HWY 70 north to marysville, before entering maryville take the Feather River BLVD turnoff (west) its about 4-5 miles down a crappy road on the left hand side, you cant miss it.

Alright Thanks. I know right were that is. If the axle I found doesn't work out then ill make a trip up there.

i dont see why it wouldent work. its a full width ford axle. and its hp.
dose it have disk breaks?

well if that axle you found is from a f150, it isn't 3/4 ton. which means it has smaller brakes, and maybe thinner axle tubes, 2-3 inches narrower than a 3/4 ton dana 44 too. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe thats right.

if it is a 1/2 ton dana 44 from a f150 it should be high pinion, and the radius arm things are welded on instead of cast in like on the 77.5 to 79 f150/bronco 1/2 ton dana 44.

it should serve your purpose very well.

if its from an f150 (half ton) and its a 76, it will be drum brake, 66" wide, welded radius arm bushings and high pinion.

If its 3/4 ton it will be drum brake 8 lug with leaf springs 67" wide and low pinion (I think)

Well it's ok because I found a whole fornt end to a 76 F-150 custom, But it has disk brakes up front. Is it a problem if it has welded radius arm bushings? And yes it is 5 lug and high pinion. The steering looks odd though. Its the y style steering. What do you all think?

the welded radius arm wedges is a good thing, it means you can cut them off and run leafs or go linked, or just change the angle.

76 F150 is the best one to find. It is high pinion, has thick tubes, disc brakes (not that it matters, junkyard drum to disc swaps are easy) and weld on radius arm wedges. As said, you can either cut the wedges off and go leaves or cut them off and move them in 2-3" on either side and run coils/radius arms without having to move your coil towers out. Also, by going fullwidth and moving the radius arm wedges in you gain extra articulation for free. :)

Got the axles

Allright well I got the axle pulled today from the junk yard. It was raining a bit and the front of the truck was sitting in a 5" deep puddle, so it was fun. But the good new is the axle is sitting in the garage and almost pulled all apart. I am expecting some money in the next couple of days so I can start rebuilding both axles. I would like to get the whole swap in about a month so i'm going to try to hit it pretty hard the next few weeks. Ill post some pics of the axles later tonight or tomorrow. O and thanks for the JY suggestion biggs92EB. Its my new favorite place.:)

Does this place have newer Fords too? Explorers and F150s and whatnot.

no problem colindo, I like it too, and they are reasonable with their prices. I didnt see any 2nd gen explorers or newer F150's, but i wasnt lookin for them either....They do have alot of cars/trucks in there

Ok I ordered some parts and am starting to clean up the axles. Is reverse cut ring and pinions for the front D44 the way to go? And is it worth while switching to rear disks on the 8.8 or will the bigger brakes be fine? Anyways everything is going in the right direction so far.:)

revers cut is the same as revers rotation or high pinion. so if you have a high pinion axle thet is what you need. looking good so far. wish my 44 had welded cs on it lol o well

Just copy and paste this one.

Thank You for the tip. I feel a little sheepish. Yea the welded c's will help a lot. Yea I figured out the reverse rotation right after I posted that. So I ordered my ring and pinions for the front and rear. The install kits, warn hubs, 7* bushings, rear lockright, wildhorse coils. Its going to be like Christmas around here soon.
