Colorado Colors Run 2013 - Planning and Discussion

Bump...only about a month and a half away and there doesn't seem to be much interest other than a few I know about that already have reservations.

I will be in Reno the week and a half prior to this trip and there happens to be a 500 mile desert race the same weekend as the Colorado run that I may stick around for. If there is going to be a big turnout for this I'm more likely to fly home earlier and come to Ouray. Decisions, decisions!

Scott, you still planning on this?

...Did you receive the update then about the Texas now Vegas Championship race?

...I am out for this years CCR..:(

My paying job fell through. I will be in Buena Vista with my sons 7-31 to 8-2. After that I will be looking for another paying job. But I would drive out again for a colors run if we can decide on when and where. Providing I do not have another paying job.

Yes. Laura will be in Denver the week before on business, so I be hanging out for a while.

One area I would like to visit this trip is Crystal Mill.

OK, MLB has a scheduled long--10 days we could spend in Colorado vacation. It is second week of august though--

We cannot make both trips, but this talk of Schofield has us tempted to wait-:D

Put us down as "thinkin' bout it" now.

If Crystal Mill/Schofield is on the agenda I will make the trip just for that as I have wanted to do that for years. Are you planning on going to Ouray after?

What day for Schofield? I need to know soon to make my airline reservations for the trip back so I will have enough time to drive up there to meet everyone.

Labor Day weekend works for me but I do have to be back home by Sept 3rd.

We'd have to leave here Thursday night (Aug 29), Friday to get our act together so I vote Schofield Saturday, Aug 31. We'd kind of like to stay around and explore that area a bit also.

I work a volunteer job aprox. 5-10 am m-f. If I left Friday after work I could make Gunnison late Friday evening. Could do a loop of Schofield and Ohio Pass back to Gunnison Saturday. Then maybe head over to Taylor Lake and Tincup. Could go over Tincup Pass, or Hancock Pass, or even Tomichi. Then back home for me on Monday.

I have to be in Denver to pick up Laura on Friday evening.

We can meet in Maple, CO for lunch on Saturday, then go to Crystal Mill.

How does that work for everyone?

Do you mean Marble? You wanting to do Schofield in the afternoon? We could do that. Run Ohio up the come north to south on Schofield. Just need a winch on a truck to get up the rock section at Devils Punch Bowl for folks with open diffs that might have a problem. Most folks won't but it was the most technical section of the trail the only time I did it. Might not even need it but it'd be nice to have if we have stock trucks with open diff's along. Wouldn't even slow us down that much so stockers would be welcome. Going the way would be just as fast as going south to north folks need to stop to dry out brakes after all the stream crossings before heading down to the DPB.

I have a friend who wants to do Pearl and Taylor. Trying to get him out for that. So I might do that on Sunday.

Maybe something like this. Just ideas. Guess I'm just kinda like a kid at Christmas time when I start planning a 4x4 trip.

Hey guys, I need to know what dates this run is going to be doing what. I have a Wedding to be at in Colorado Springs on Saturday Aug 24 and I am considering driving out so I can attach this trip. From what I can see it looks like this trip may be running the weekend before this wedding. I can visit friends in Colorado Springs during the week. I need to know sooner rather than later so I can set up my vacation time and/or airline flights if I decide not to go this route.

Thanks,

Dan

so is the plan before after or the weekend of labor day? labor day i have a family trip but other weekends work too

I have updated the first post with participant names. (I put everyone as "Interested" - will move names as people commit.)

I have to be in Denver Friday night, August 30. Unfortunately, I can't start any exploring until I get there on Saturday. I was thinking Crystal Mill might be nice to do on Saturday (and Sunday if needed.) After that, head down to Ouray / Telluride area for a couple of days. I have to be back in Denver on Wednesday evening, September 4. I have 4 days to explore - Saturday through Tuesday.

How do these dates work for everyone?

I will probably be in Colorado earlier in the week to do some exploring/wheeling/camping - I will know more about the dates as we get closer.
