How to: Convert V8 AWD to BW 4406 Manual Shift- A how to thread

well its all one thing, so torsion bar removal is essential. anyhow, i figured i would give it a try for a little today and only managed to get the weather sealant boot, and shift boot with knob. it sucks dick because right under the truck is 2'' of mud/water so bottom removal would be futile and frustrating. so here is about as far as i got cutting the body wide open inside above the t- case my cordless zawsall died so most of that is with pliers and a hammer lol i have to go back and cut that one stubborn crossmember and i think i should be ok what do yall think? :D

if it's x-member and torsion bar mounts are similar to the Explorer, then the only thing that should need removed is the x-member, and the torsion bar mounts won't need touched.

without seeing it though, I can only guess.

I agree. The center section of the cross member comes out if its like the explorers (should be for sure) So just undo that and it should all come out. And if no seats then hak it up! :) Long as the junkyard doesnt care!

you doin it yourself? it'll be a PITA to pull it off the tranny's output shaft and pull it up! :o

unless you cut up enough of the body.

although.... you shouldn't need to touch the x-member anyway. I haven't had to touch the x-member to pull my t-case the couple times I pulled it off to rebuild it.

the x-member is there to hold the weight of the tranny and t-case.
But only the tranny is bolted to the x-member via the tranny mount/bushing.
unless there's a secondary x-member 1 ft behind that one that the t-case bolts to :dunno:

der... I see the x-member type thing that's ABOVE the t-case.

have fun with that :D

Idea for you-in case you didn't ask

The pick and pull I go to will fork lift a truck up, and have his guys torch out anything you want for about 15 bux extra--;)

FIXED IT FOR YA:

it sucks ^&%$ because right

wow please keep the language off this family forum, thanks!!

my apologies on the language :p: but today during lunch i cut that body crossmember out, removed all the bolts from the tranny/t-case and scored the linkage!!!!! it cost me about $15. now all i have to do is go back, and take the drive shafts out with a 12pt 12mm socket and slide the case off and up. i think i will have a willing buddy to help tommorow :D but im so glad i got all the linkage and stuff, and it all cost me under $20 :)

so we got it out! i will post a pic tommorow but as i was planning my trip to the yard for the shafts i thought...."i have a 4'' superlift---uhhh oh" :wtf:. so my question is, will the front shaft thats single u-joint still work with my lift? :dunno:

No, but I just happen to know someone who removed his recently. ;)

I will actually need the shorter version back.

haha ok by shorter version you mean? stock f150 front shaft (4.6) ?

i know you guys are talking about doing this with the 5.0l v8s but i was curios if a trans case out of an older ranger with the manual shift would bolt onto a 94? I ask cause I bought a 94 ex and it has the manual hubs but has the cruddy electric push button for the Tcase and if possible would like to swap in a tcase that was manual shift.

crazyalaskan try searching BW 1350 manual conversion on this forum or similar terms

You have a 1354E you need a 1354M

Has anyone on here that has done the 4406 swap done a SAS as well? I am wondering what they did for a front axle.

Mutineer. '97V8 I think too.

Thanks, i will send out a PM.

i had my front shaft out in the AWD and it creeped in park...will i have that same issue with this???
