I have made more progress on the ex today. I sanded and primed the front passenger door and passenger quarter panel.

In case anyone is wondering why I'm only doing little sections each day , it's because it's all the time I have between when I wake up and before I go to work. On my days off of work I make much much more progress. I'm quite excited as the priming is getting close to being done , all that's really left is the front clip.

Good to here your making great progress. Can't wait to see how the finished product will turn out. Are you just painting your X outside or in a garage?

Outside my garage , It's harde moving it in and out of the garage so I just took the pics while it was in the garage lol

Glad to see some more pictures. If you do as good of a job as my neighbors did on a jeep then it'll look good  Remember to clear coat it when finished.

its just my two pennies, but you may have less of a chance of getting paint defects (or say gnats in the paint) if you paint inside that garage... sap droplets can play hell with your paint job.

bubble roof! bubble roof! bubble roof!

You may want to look for a roof like this. Best I can come up with is that it came on a Centaurus Conversion Explorer.

Those are horrid looking! It would look GREAT without that roof :D

Got a bit more done today. Got the front grill and bumper off and the lights rewired back to stock. Also got a little bit of sanding done too.

Btw , if anyone actually likes that converted navajo grill and limited bumper let me know. I won't be needing them anymore and it's a pretty easy and nice looking mod for any ex.

IMHO, you should ditch that grille and headlight assembly and get a traditional explorer grille and headlights. they cant be too expensive if you buy from a salvage yard.

The front end will be changed back to the stock look as I saved all the old parts

First post.

I've been watching this thread, and I'm lovin' it. But I also have a question. What year Navajo grill and such fit the Explorer? Is it straight bolt on? Fenders are the same, right?

Thanks, in advance.

I finished sanding the front clip and reinstalled the original grill , headlights and bumper pieces.

I think that original grille looks a lot better than the mazda navajo grille. Looks like you're about done on getting that explorer primed

See that's funny cuz I like the navajo grill more. Simply because the original grill/lights is too 80's. But when doing the jurassic ex you gotta have that original front end.

It may be 'cause I'm used to the regular grille. I have never seen an X with a navajo grille on it...in person
