Fuel Pressure- Low key off, okay at idle

The line going directly to the FPR on the 91 is different..

On the '92/93/94 its threaded onto the PFR. On the '91 donor engine I got it uses some funky press on connector. I can't tell, but I "think" the line your talking about is the one that connects to the FPR.

It is, and that funky connector is not coming off to save my ass, hence I snapped it at the 90degree bend on the FPR. I'm going to look up a guy from Dez Rangers who rolled his explorer here in town and see if I can part out his motor.

Since you need that line anyway.. see if you can get that line from a 1992-1994 and then get a 1992-1994 FPR.. no more funky connector..

Dan, if you can't get it from that guy you might try Driven Autoparts. They are a local Bronco and Explorer boneyard. They are at 35th Ave. South of Vanburen.

Worst case, my neighbor still has those two 1991 explorers for sale (one with a good motor, one is a bad motor).. One 4x4 (4 door), other is 2wd sport..

$500 for both and you can get tons of parts off those..

If Yolanda would let me have more vehicles on the property I'd already own them.

You've got 5 acres and she's worried about too many cars?;)

I used a different set of plastic tools from napa, worked fine even on my nasty dirty rusted truck. The fittings can be a pain though. Be careful with the ones on the pump because they rot off and are almost impossible to get out of the hose.

Yea, I know.. I'm only allowed to park so many and we need to keep the view.. She says "she not even white, and I'm turning her into white trash :)"

We are down to 2 trailers, 1 chevy flatbed, an e-250, a mustang, honda civic and two motorcycles.. We have gotten rid of 3 vehicles in the last few months so I have a little leeway (sp?) again :).

Do you have a pic? I have a feeling I'm going to own ever fuel/ac tool available before this is over. It seems like certain tools work for certain areas of the truck better.

And thanks Mark, but NO, I don't need 2 junk trucks. I'm really pissed I didn't part down my 94 a little more, I'm not sure if that truck made it's way to the crusher or what, but I wish I remember the junkyard I took that thing. I'm thinking it's in the neighborhood of 35th ave and Van Buren but there is so many junkyards down that way. The motor in that truck was perfect and well cared for, not to mention I forgot to pull the fairly new plug wires and a few other parts I'm now learning about.

This is the set I have the best luck with.. Sometimes I use metal, but when the metal doesn't work, this does and vise versa.

thats the set i used

93-94 hoses should be the same

I havea few sets if you want me to ship them to you... I have like 4 old OHV engines sitting around all still have fuel rails and lines... go figure.

I make my own fuel lines too, you can buy the nylon line and re-use the metal flare fittings from your 91, requires a camping stove to get the water HOT HOT HOT
heat the line and fitting, press together very very hard... they are a PITA but I almost have it to a science... getting the line over all 3 flares is a PITA

removing your upper intake makes working in there MUCH easier, but not required, at least get the intake and throttle body off.....

As for the fuel pressure
my 88, my 96, and James 97 ALL lose fuel pressure after just minutes of shutting the key off..all of them have new fuel pumps and run just fine..

I am not sure why the service books say it should hold pressure... it does not
I am not sure if it is the thin air here in CO or what but after looking and building the fuel systems on these trucks I cant see how they would hold pressure, there is no check valve at the pump to stop the fuel from bleeding back into the tank, and the tank is open to the charcoal canister via plastic hoses (open to atmosphere), the fuel caps are vented.. so yeah you shut the key off the fuel rail pressure goes away in minutes...seems normal to me!
As long as you are getting 32+ psi with the key on I would say you are good

Well Jamie If you have the fat one that goes from the FPR (with the 90) and compression fittings under the intake and unions to the skinny fuel line let me know. I'm dead in the water until I change that.

All this is inconclusive, JTsmith and 410 now have me convinced that my fuel pump probably isn't totally bad but I should probably change it because it's noisy and lacking a little power.

oops I missed the part about the 91-92 line being different.
I would get the more common 93-94 style line and use a 93-94 style FPR be done with it

I have 93-94 style setup and 95-97 style setups, complete fuel rails, regualtors and metal fuel lines

Also NOTE:
for stubborn fuel pressure fittings the cap of a sharpie works AMAZING, cut the end off, slit it down the side and BLAMO! perfect fuel line tool

will these work?
Ill send you the regulator and lines

This is a 97 Explorer XLT engine, BAD BAD BAD cracked head, but ran fine when pulled even with the water in there, fuel pressure was tested 100%, has sat for about a year now.

YEEEEHAW. Thats the one.

Now I need to get that damn return line fitting off.

Send that puppy out, tell the delivery to install it too, the truck is right here.

Danny, if you want a little help with that, give me a call. I am looking (practically begging) for an excuse to not have to go with the wife to a couple of kid's b-day parties and a baby shower...:D

well if you want to have a wrenching party on Saturday during the day I want to get this taken care of (I may not have the replacement part but I want to get the fitting off) and I also want to get my brake proportioning vavle installed. I am trying to figure out the best place to install that and have a valve that would mount nicely in the cab if I could run the hard lines in there and get everything together. I have the tools for flaring I just know it can be a little tricky. And I DO have that fuel pump that I am going to change. Plus that A/C????

Did you finish your A/C up yet?

My only issue would be my hauler is full of palm tree trimmins and some clown's super duty axles that take 2 strong men to budge.

My best place for working in this weather is in my carport with a fan or two moving the air. The heat doesn't bother me as long as I have shade.

If Justin isn't working I know that he has a CV shaft that needs to be changed out as well so we have plenty of reasons that you can escape the wife deeds.

I have to replace the brakes on the SD and I still haven't gotten the AC done on the Ex. I can bring my AC stuff as well. Either way, we have plenty to do. I'll give you a call tomorrow.

sounds good, You want the pads from Froader's Superduty axles? He hasn't seen them yet so he won't know if lousy ones end up on there.

Also, I'd love to be able to check levels in the super duty, it's taking a while to get cold, but then again it has been 115 here.
