96 ford explorer V8
Hey guys I'm joining because I have questions and the internet can only tell me so much. I got a 96 explorer xlt 2WD explorer V8. Its only got 118,000 on it, no tranny problems, no rust, very clean and fully loaded. Its says "explorer" on top of the engine. Every video or step by step pictorial I can find they all say 5.0, I really would like to know if theres a difference between the two.

So heres my thing, I want to beef it up of course. I'm looking to start with a cold-air intake. I'm looking at the MAC or the K&N, I want to know if 97-01 intakes will fit? The engines look identical to me.

Also theres a harness that goes into the factory air tube and I can't find out what it is.

Can you guys give me any help?

The intake plaque is just a bolt cover, some say 5.0 v8 and some are the explorer v8 type. Like my avatar

Your stock intake box is already a "cold air intake" drawing in cold air from around the headlight through a tube. Aftermarket intakes as the one you mention actually draw in warm engine compartment air.

The wires in the intake tube are for the intake air temp sensor.

If you want a ' more' cold air you can always get some flex tube and route the opening of the stock box down or there is a opening in the fender well. keep the stock box unless your going full performance. Just a idea. Did it on my B3000 just opened the stock box some and put a bigger tube ran closr to back of light. Yes i know this is a old post.
