Hi,

I know it was stupid - but I jet washed under the hood...It was initially Ok, I started it and drove a few miles. Then I stopped and then went to start again and it has not started since :(

I have WD40'd everything I can see which might be a problem - but no joy...

any ideas?

In my defence - it did look like this before I washed it

sounds like you got to much water in the intake, pull the plugs and crank it a few times, clean and dry them and reinstall and try to fire it again.

if that doesnt work, try drying out the coil pack.

also pull the air filter first and dry it, and change the oil.

if it ran after you washed it it is not hydrolocked, i would think mroe along the lines of getting water where it shouldnt be, like wet on the maf and tps....

distributer?

possibly friend the alternator, battery....

what have you done test wise? is it not cranking? is it not sparking? does nothing at all?

it is cranking - it has tried to fire a few times, I washed it yesterday, then drove it for a few miles. Now nothing...

how do I deal with the maf - and what is the tps?

Sorry not very mechanical!

by the way, the picture was a few days before I washed it - I have driven it in between times.

distributer?

Explorer's do not have distributors......

Sounds like you might have shorted a coil pack or something of that nature. Since you used high pressure water, it's also possible you knocked a connection loose (like a crank position sensor of something). I'd poke around and try and eyeball every connection to make sure they are connected.

I have looked around -cant see anything obvious :(

did you get a check engine light when it ran?

crank position sensor?

did you get a check engine light when it ran?
nope - all was fine

looks like I need to have another look, not sure where all these sensor connections are though...

had the aa out today and they have found no problem with damp wiring, in fact with a bit of easy start it fired and ran - briefly, they have suggested getting it into a garage to have it looked at as there is no fuel getting though - any ideas before it costs me loads!!

Have you listened if you can hear the fuel pump if you turn the key to the ON position? I'm thinking that you might have shorted and toasted the fuel pump relay or a fuse somewhere.

Be careful with that WD40, it will conduct electricity. Compressed air is always better even if you have to go and buy several cans, you know like for cleaning computor keyboards. Dry all your connections and then start simple with looking for spark and then for fuel.

i second the fuel relay. and i believe even with out a code if you put the system in self test it will find a fault, or something.

where is the fuel relay and fuse?

Ok - now I am confused!... I actually just got it to start by pure chance. I kept turning it over almost constantly for about 5 mins - and it started!.. I had it running for about 10 mins, then it cut out again - and now wont start again!...

I did have the maf disconnected at the time, which I reconnected about 5 mins into when it was running - what's going on !!!
