Two things....

Wrong Forum....

and...

They didn't have a Sport Trac in 1996. They had a Sport. The Sport is just a 2 door version of the Explorer.

The Sport Trac was introduced around 2001, and shared the same front grill as the Sport, yet it was a 4 door Explorer, with a VERY short bed.

well then for some reason my vin lookup says 96 sport trac and the manual is a sport trac and my truck says sport trac and my title says sport trac so i sure it is guy. please dont respond without any help thank u RYAN

He was responding with help.

Everything he said was correct.

#1, you posted this in the wrong forum. You are far less likely to find the help you need, because the people most knowledgeable about your type of vehicle may not look at the forum sections intended for other years/models

#2, There is NO SUCH THING as a '96 Sport Trak. PERIOD. Don't care waht you think you looked up. It's common knowledge. There is a '96 Sport, which is just a 2dr Explorer. The Sport Trac, as previously explained to you, ws not made until 2001. It looks very different from a regular explorer, in that it has a small pickup bed. Again, as you were already told above (by someone w/ 2,000+ posts, who has been a member since 2002 - VS. your 2 posts) Perhaps you actually have a 2006? Then you could have a sport trac. Of course, the bed is the easiest way to tell that. Do you have a 2dr explorer (sport) or do you have a very small bed (sport trac)?

#3, The question(s) you have asked have been asked/answered MANY times before on here. Use the search feature to find those threads. Yes, YOU will have to spend some time to help YOURSELF. The answers are there.

#4, Your attitude in your response to Spdrcr34 is one which will get you very little, or no help.

k

ok well im sorry i was just reading whats on the paper work. my bad guys

What paperwork? There was no Sport Trac in 96. So do you have a little bed like a truck, or what? If it says all that on your truck, and title, and all then maybe you have an 06, not a 96.

"Torsion twist" for the front lowering, and you certainly don't have a 96 Sport Trac. Are you sure it doesn't say "Control Trac"?

Where does it say "Trac" on your car? Control trac maybe or whatever it was called..

yea I guarantee he has the control trac 4x4 it's a huge badge next to explorer on the hatch that says controltrac or something like that

it says sport trac on the hatch i guess someone must of stuck it there before i bought it its a 96 4 WD 2DR explorer so ya. as for the wrong forum thing, sorry new to this stuff. i always had a resource to this stuff in the army cause my buddies did this stuff alot and im out now and dont have there numbers. and i searched the forums the only lowering i found was the back to use the block kit. but one of my friends say i have to get a smaller spindle but i dont know. i thought it would be just springs i could buy, but not just the front. but ur ideas are 100& wanted.

If you go to the main forum page, it will list all the various sections of the forum.

There is an entire section just for "sport" trucks. (Not Sport, like your model. Sport, as in modified for handling/performance)
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17

There is also a dedicated section within that for lowered explorers:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=46
Read the "stickies" at the top.

On a side note, to other forum members/MODS: He's right. Nothing useful turned up using the most logical search. I tried "Lowering How To" and "lowering". This thread is the number 1 search result. Obviously useless. Nothing on the first page pointed to the right info/forum. Of course, part of the problem is people posting these threads asking the same questions over and over. However, maybe it's time for someone to do so "housecleaning" and delete the hundreds, if not thousands of "dead" and otherwise utterly worthless threads. I see tons of 1 post threads, that no one has ever, or will ever answer from YEARS ago, along with a number of threads that rehash old stuff without adding anything new. It's really mucking up the search results. Mods? Thoughts?

wow

also...you want to lower a 4WD??? why? one day your gonna wanu try 4wd out...after its lowerd and....boom your stuck because of ground clearence

Because it's his truck to do what he wants with, whether it makes sense to others or not?

i have tried it, been doing it since i was 16. i wanna try something diff now you knw

What do u mean by "Torsion twist" ?

crank down the torsion bar adjuster bolts, do a search in the lowered suspension forum, the rear needs blocks. Most block kits come with 3" axle U bolts and the explorer has a 3.25" axle. Sooo you need to use some clamps and compress the bolts together under tha axle in order to get them to go into the spring perch. Or find some 3.25" axle Ubolts. You can lower the front up to about 2.5" 3" is pushing it. Nobody makes a drop spindle for explorers. But you can also find reindexed torsion keys as well rather than cranking down your torsion bars.

The keys reindex the torsion bar mounting points. basically turning the torsion bars which lowers the truck. Reindexed keys or cranking your torsion bars are the only way to lower the front end unless you do a custom coil over setup.
