How to: How To: Install Signal Mirrors On 3rd Gen Ex

Prefix for threads which are instructional.
thanx you do the same. i also used your pics to put in new speakers in my doors. i looked at others that put up ways to take off the panel but i ended up breaking a clip the other day, till i seen your thread and that made it so much easier. took me 20min to do the front doors. good job and thanx

I think I might take those pictures and make a how-to on removing the door panel. I learned from a post about something else. There have been many that have asked how to remove the door panel. Let us know how you make out installing the signal mirrors. ;)

good idea cause one thing u didnt mention or maybe i didnt see that there are no push in clips(the tree looking things that break everytime you remove the door panel). so i was trying to pull off the panel but all you have to do is lift the panel upwards and nothing will break.
i wont do the mirrors for a couple months cause i dont have a garage and theres about a foot of snow out now. will post pics when its done. i think ill just hunt down the wired in the harness instead of goin all the way to the front to the turn siganls...

It's in there. No picture as explained:

1.e. Lift Door Panel Up And Towards You
No Picture. I couldn't remove door panel and take a picture at the same time

I hear you about no garage. :(

Side Mirror Glass Replacement XLT '02 UT Exp.

Came across your forum after searching for info re side mirrors on UT Explorers and discovered some pretty handy insights into mirror replacement from a couple of you guys. (Big Rondo, et al)

Quick question though can I just replace the mirror part (without turn signal) and without dismantling the whole mirror assembly and door trim ?

Smashed my RHD drivers side glass on the the weekend and was told that the only spare part from FORD was the whole assembly costing $579 AUD which I thought was a bit of a rort !...............cheers.

Welcome aboard mate! :salute:

Maybe get the signal mirrors and install them instead of paying all that cash for the whole mirror. The signal mirrors are $40 US. I don't know if they ship to OZ though.

Cheers Bloke ........ will check out and see if they ship this far down although I've sourced a local glass manufacturer who will custom cut me a new piece of glass to fit and install for under $100 so will probably run with that I reckon...........thanks for your quick reply though, much appreciated mate.:australia

Whatever you decide to do, good luck! :biggthump

Hey rondo, how long would you say this takes to install? Definitely going to be my next mod. Also, do you think it is better to get a second set of mirrors to swap the glass on first so when Im ready to take the panels off i can just swap mirrors right away instead of having to take the mirror off and replacing glass?

It took me the better part of the day. I was taking my time and took at least 5 pictures of every step for the write-up. As far as the 2nd set of mirrors goes, I would say that is up to you. While you will save time by having the second set, is the additional cost worth it?

Good luck with the install and let me know if you have any other questions. :biggthump

Thanks. I guess Id be better off using the same mirrors I have and use the money I would have spent on something else.

It took me only five minutes to install mine :). Actually, I already had signal mirrors installed on my Ex from SharkRacing but decided to order the ones from Roush. One word of caution. The Roush signal mirrors "DO NOT" have a slot in the bottom of the mirrors so if you put them on then need take them off you're in trouble. I did this and found out that I did not have the pin installed in the slot on the passengers mirror. There was no way to get it off so I took some needle nose pliers and just pulled out the pin. I than took a small drill on my dremel and carefully cut a slot in the bottom of the Roush mirrors. A delicate job I must say. Personally, I like the dual chevrons of the SharkRacing, but the Roush Thunderbolts look nice.

Rick you got some pics of the new mirrors?

Sorry Rondo, I don't have any pics right now. Maybe I can get some this weekend. I had to install rear calipers and all new lines this last weekend as they were causing the calipers to stick. What a job! I decided not to put the SharkRacing signals in my GT40 as the replacement mirrors are $600 each if something goes wrong so I gave them to my son. He really likes the dual chevron led look.

No worries. Take your time. I thought it would be cool to see them on another Ex. Take care man!

Hey rondo, quick question.

On the interior passenger side I see the grommet to run the wires through, but I dont see where they come out from in the engine bay.

EDIT - Actually nevermind found it.

Here you go:

Lol, I see that you already got it!

Hey rondo, just a couple more quick questions.

I got the mirrors in the mail today, very excited to install. Just wanted to know if the wiring they gave you is long enough and if you used the quick splice and butt connectors and such they gave you or used a different gauge.

If you use the method I used then the passenger side wire is long enough & the driver side wire is not. If you use the "under dash wiring method" then the wire for both mirrors will be long enough. I have a bunch of the connectors so I used those. The connectors are available at wally world. You should be able to use the connectors that come with the kit. Might not be a bad idea to have some spare connectors on hand. Nothing worse than being in the middle of the installation and you don't have all the stuff you need.

Yeah I have some connectors lying around in the garage. Just wanted to make sure I had everything before I started because it sucks running to pepboys to grab some stuff.
