Iz's Bingo Bus/Tow Rig

I decided it was time to pass on the old E-350 and replace it with another.

So I picked this guy up on Saturday.

- 2001 E-350 7.3 PowerStroke (does not leak!!)
- Auxiliary air-conditioning/heat under the chassis
- 13 seater (including the driver) but I'll probably change up this combo.
- Air-powered side barn doors (by far the coolest part of the vehicle)
- Wide power side mirrors
- Padded interior walls (in case I go nuts.. oh wait)
- Luggage rack (will probably be removed)

That item is know as the APCM or AIC (Aux Idle Controller). With that controller you can adjust idle speed and engage/disengage the PTO. I believe the high idle setting on the AIC is 1200 rpm. The display also shows engine speed and voltage, if I remember right.
The PTO bolts up to the driver's side of the trans and runs off of a gear inside the trans. You can get different attachments for it. The most common being a hydraulic pump. Then you can plumb the pump lines to a hydraulic motor to drive compressors, generators or winches, etc.

I'll see if I can find out more for you.

Wow thanks for the info 90ranajo -- I'll slide under the vehicle sometime this week and see whats going on down at the transmission area.

Here's the info on the Muncie FR/FA Series PTO.

Here's the info on the Parker/Chelsea 246/247 Series PTO.

How good is the air system on it? How is it setup? You could plumb it with some air hose connectors for air tools and do repairs to your rig on site lickety split.

Yeah good idea -- I'll have to check out exactly what components are driving what and see where things can be taken advantage of.

I bet the controller is locked to prevent the driver from messing with it. Probably something they set and forget in the shop.

Our water pump controller has a lockout. On that unit you have to hold two buttons down until it unlocks. Maybe the PTO controller is setup similarly?

I would put a carbon monoxide detector in there if you plan on running the AC with the van parked for extended time. Sure couldn't hurt.

I wonder what the rear frame looks like on that thing..

I tried looking for a spare tire again today -- nope.

But the frame at the rear is just like a normal frame -- the gas tank is right behind the rear axle (instead of mid ship behind the driver's seat like on the other van). But there's another 2.5 or so feet behind the gas tank of empty space -- maybe the spare tire will fit under there.

Thanks for the carbon monoxide detector tip Rick -- I'll remember to install one.

I've put about 100-ish miles on this van and I gotta say, its a lot of fun to drive. I did have to recharge the aux A/C because it just wasnt getting as cold as the primary A/C but now the aux nice and cool.

But since this thing doesnt leak oil one bit (unlike the other van), its underside is dry as a bone and of course dry means some rust. So I'm looking around for some undercoating or rust preventative coating, and hopefully apply it before the cold months show up.

Of course there's the infamous POR-15 but what about Rust Bullet? 1-gal from Summit is only $117 -- thats quite a bit cheaper than POR-15 :

You know if you just moved out here already, you would not have that problem! :p:

Thanks toypaseo -- I like that wheel you linked to. It looks a lot better than whats under the hubcaps right now. I'd rock 'em w/o hub caps :)

My neighbor has one of these with the same setup in an E450 for sale.

I picked up this 18 ft trailer yesterday from VA. Its a 2007 model with electric brakes and a breakaway doodad at the front.

I tried fitting the old E-350's hitch onto the shuttle van but the shuttle van started as a cab-and-chassis so its frame rails are much wider apart (and theeeck). So I'll prob pop the rear bumper and make my own.

Looks like your shuttle fits in perfectly on your street full of RVs. :D

What's the specs??

Oh yeah totally -- I moved my shuttle and this trailer over to my cousin's neighborhood cauz this specific street looks more suitable (and everyone else parks their RV there). The streets are super wide so hopefully that means no more drunken newbs smashing into my trailer.

What's the specs??
7.5k lbs gross weight and that's pretty much all I know for now. I'll have to modify the sides and the fender (put something over it like the last one) cauz the Explorer will probably be just as wide as before.
