Jakee's 4.0 SOHC Build up discussion and motivation thread

Good buy. You will like the Xcal2.

Who did you get it through? I would reccomend that you make sure that the tuner does not give give you all three tunes right away. Tell them to make you one tune for your stuff you have now and then save the other two tunes for when you have put other larger mods on there. Then just call that person up and tell them you want a second tune for "blahblahblah"... It ends up working better than just getting all three at once and only really using one of them. Just a little advice. ;)

I'll take that advice.

I got it thru James (JAH). He's going to write me a "basic" tune that changes the shift points, firms up the shifting, and turns the rear 02's off. I was going to wait until I got down there and just pick it up but I don't feel like driving with a check engine light one. Sometimes it stays off for a week, sometimes 3 days.

Anyways, he'll tune me better on the street.

I thought you went through him. Good choice he will treat you right.

Yeap. www.hensonperformance.com rocks! ;)

By the way, I upgraded the rotors today with slotted and hawk pads. Man! this thing stops! 60-0 in about 2.1....well, it feels like that atleast. Now if I can get the 0-60 half that fast. (yeah right)

Ive been following your buld-up for a while off and on. Thats a lota threads to be going thru tho. Hoping the best for ya man. Where do u stand at right now? What plans for the engine? and do u know what u run in the 1/4 mile as of now?

I have really no idea what I run and I don't even want to guess anymore. My main problem is traction off the line but that'll be fixed.

Yes, the thread got way out of hand along time ago. I plan to fix it at the end that shows only the main points with data backing them up.

Plans....Well, I kind of hate typing them in here because they change, and that makes me look bad. But, I'm almost done with everything I said I was going to do. I want to get this N/A goal done soon. Once done, I'm gonna chill for a while (A few months) before I start up on the turbo.

Oh yeah, once the track opens, I'll get some time-slips. I've already made plans with my Dad to go and run a few passes.

so , what would you say were the most worth while mods?

Here’s a summary…It's hard to say what did the most cuss I'm going off what I feel. I think the Crank pulley was my favorite so far.

The Intake was okay. I had already modified what I had so I didn't get to feel the full affect. But, when I added the hose from the front fog lights, along with a bigger filter that was closed in, I felt a pretty good gain.

The C&L MAF was okay. Again, I already had a modified MAF housing, and it performed just the same. I just didn't like the cheap plastic spectra housing I used and I actually bent it a little when tightening up the clamps. That's the only reason I got the C&L

The TB I used was the 4.6 version; I modified it by half-shafting and thinning the butterfly. I also removed some from the front part of the bore. This will give you way better throttle response but I'm not sure if you'll gain any HP.

I removed all the slack from my throttle cable and did the TB mod as well. This combination gave me very good throttle response. I'm actually nervous letting people drive the truck cuss when you mash the gas the thing takes off. Usually when someone drives it with out knowing the truck they bark the tires a few times before getting used to it. You should have seen the inspection guy that inspected it last. He pilled a few feet and his face turned red.

The exhaust was a good one too. I felt a good difference when the cat back was installed.

Removing the main cats made a noticeable difference but the pre-cats didn't really do that much. I spent a good amount of time modifying the Y-pipe and cutting the pre-cats, so if you do this, don't expect much.

The E-Fan was a very good mod. I would suggest going with the flex-a-lite 180. Thanks to Aldive for this one. It's quieter.

The Crank pulley was done at the same time as the water pump pulley, so I don't know which did what; However, I believe the crank pulley to be one of the best so far.

I still have the ALT pulley but I don't plan to install that just yet. I may install because at night I can see the lights dimming when the e-fan comes on. This might have nothing to do with the alt pulley but it couldn't hurt. I need to upgrade the ALT and bat anyways..

Also, I've done a lot of weight reduction that I feel made a good difference.

Now the tune and will see what this thing can do. I don’t expect to be REAL FAST but I do know this thing ain’t no slow vehicle anymore.

I forgot to mention, when I added the Magna-Flow cat, I think I lost a little.

But, I want to be legal....

awsome awsome awsome summary jakee ! My favorite mods on my truck were the efan, exhaust, and tune. The tune really brought it together. I got the 93 octane torque tune from doug. He also adjusted the shift points on my tranny so it shifts a lot quicker now. Do you know the model of the spectra housing you got and how much it cost?

Also, which cats exactly do you still have and which ones are gone?

And the crank pulley is like $245 correct?

Yes, that is it. You're gonna have to modify the heck out of it to get the sensor to work. If you'd like, I'll send you the adaptor that's already modified. That will save you A LOT of time. It's free, so let me know.

As for the housing, I've stated in here what to do with it. Just don't tighten up to much with the clamps. Don't get me wrong, it's still strong but I bent mine just a little. Honestly, it was bent bad but I'm too much of a perfectionist.

The pre-cats are there but gutted. I left them there for the "looks that it's still legal". The main cats have been replaced with on Magna-flow cat with the sensor bung located in the middle of the cat. I think I gave the part number somewhere in this thread. Compared to an open illegal exhaust, you will lose just a little but I can't prove it. Just a feeling. Even so, it's not much at all.

Yeah, I can't wait for the tune. Should be here tomorrow!

Talk to JAH with the turbo exploder if you'd like. He sells the crank pulley. I'm not sure where you found one for 245$?

what in the way of weight reduction did you do?

The nerf bars, roof racks, front tow hooks, DIFF damper, spare tire, spare tire holder and bracket, rear winsheild wiper assembly, carpet under padding, front-end plastic skid plate, exhaust heat deflector?, rear bumper! (That thing is heavy, replace with roll-pan, under hood insulation).....

I have a few more ideas but I'll wait.

How much did you buy yours for? I guess im talking about the underdog UDP that wayne sells. How much is JAHS? are we talking about the same things here?

what was the sound difference you noticed with this?

WHen I was running no cats, it was difenatly louder. I ran like that for awhile so I got use to it. When I added the Magna-flow cat, it got a bit quieter, but really not much.

I know a lot of people have the gibson with there cats. I know for sure mine is a good bit louder with just having one cat. It's not to loud but it's got a mean rumble to it. It turns heads.

The adaptor comes with the housing. There will be several adaptors as this is a "Universal" MAF. None will work until modified to fit your sensor. I'm not asking for money cuss it can be put in an envelope and shipped.

But, if you really want to pay, I'll take 500 bucks for it. hhehee
