How big is the gab between the main slider and the body? From the pic it appears to be a few inches. Did it need to be that far to keep the body from hitting during flex?

Also, did you boat side the body at all? knock up or cut off that extra "look purdy" part of the body on the bottom so you could get the sliders up higher?

I used my thumb for a guide. So, maybe 1.25"

I did not boat side the truck, but I did pound up the body seam earlier.

Looks great Jon. I need some side steps on my BII. What do ya charge?

Hmmm, maybe we could work out a BBQ date and bring in a bunch of talent. Sparksaflyin can set up shade tarps like nobody's business

I make a purdy good pot o chili n fixins. An I have a large bottle o Bulliet Bourbon(uh for afterwards o course). But I don't mind payin folks a fair price for good work.

I have a set of Carr steps. I don't really need full lenth sliders just something to help get up in the truck. But they need some help to work for me an Clint.

No big hurry. A lifter broke and a push rod came loose in May out around Green River, UT. Trailered home and it will still run and move but it's gonna be a while fore I can have the engine done. Target date will be for a trip around May 20th next year that I e-mail you about. I have my X ("Green") for regular stuff till then.

Looks like I'm headed for the San Juans tomorrow. Maybe going to Wyoming/Montanna in August. Larry says he will be done after that. Still have a guy I meet through Larry years ago that wants to kick around the AZ strip and the Vermillion cliffs in Sept. All that stuff is "Green" stuff. There is a very slim outside chance that Larry will do the AZ. trip in sept. If he does, that trip will be changed to include the north rim and maybe HITR. But looks like that chance is bout the same as me hitting the lotto (I don't play.....well almost never).

So most likely I won't need anything till next spring.

Well
Making the top has turned out to be yet another adventure.

Before it can be finished well, I need to finish the top roll cage to a center point with triangles. This will give the needed securing points to the top also.

As it is now it would be flopping like a parachute.

Not to mention the drive back and forth, with the truck so the upholsterer can take measurements, sew the panels, then I take it back home to install the snaps. I had purchased a snap installer tool like a pair of pliers, however when I tried using it, the handles just bent together. It is not strong enough for heavy stainless snaps.

So, I have to install them with this--

and this

And it is a little awkward to say the least. There are 56 of em.

The truck needs to be in 2 places at once every day. No way I can work on the steering now.
:(

Looks like this truck will miss yet another meet.

Damn that really stinks. We were all hoping to see you guys and the rig in action at Smorr this weekend. :(

I thought I seen a HD industrial snap installer somewhere on Ebay.

PS-Don't you guys sleep at night?:p:

Jon keep that in your tool box with extra snaps. Having owned soft topped vehicles before ya never know when those snaps will break. Used to be a repair kit best top sold for when they did. You can squirt a little oil on them from time to time to help. And when the windows get scratches on them and hard to see out of a spray finiture wax works great to restore and make um look new. The wax fills the scratches and you can see through the window again.

Lookin' really good, Jon!

Looks like I'm headed for the San Juans tomorrow.

I'll be in the Ouray area starting Sunday night for about a week. Where are you going to be? PM me if ya want.

I didn't leave this mornin. Got up and the fog was thick and everything was wet and dripping. So I went back to bed and took a nap instead. Not sure right now where I'll be. We camp up in the mountians. Maybe somewhere near Rose's Cabin on Engineer or maybe in Cunningham Gulch near Silverton. I'll send ya a PM.

Yeah I need to work in a few tubes still.

Man, that thing would take a roof height impact from a D8 cat but is not very strong in an upside down situation. Tomorrow ill try to work up some suggestions... were the crossbars are in the roof is going to make it hard to add a B pillar without having missed nodes. Ive got some ideas though.

Understand, ive only built >10 rollcages so if you've got professional advice then by all means take it.

I would be grateful for any advice, as long as it is to work with what is there.

I do not want to be re designing the whole thing. Please. I do not plan on getting onto a situation where I may roll over. My main focus for today was supporting the canvas topper.

Although I do think it can be made to work well. So yes please all ideas welcome!!

I agree that it could use some improvements for the "B" and "C" pillars. You need one piece hoops that run from the floor to the other side with no joints.

Try to add a new "B" pillar just inside the existing cage and attach it at two points at the roof. If you do the same for the "C" pillar, about where the existing pair are, I'd cut out the existing vertical bars there and make the new hoop attach where the old pipes do now at the roof. That would be about 90% of what you need for head protection. The front roof edge is another issue that may be best to replace the segment that's there(but not a major issue(or is it?)). Just some ideas for the pro's to work in.

Just flippin throw a vertical tube in that "B" [pillar] and tie it to the rock slider at the bottom. :)

EDIT - and I hate to say this but what about triangulation (a diagonal tube) from one top corner to the the opposite bottom? This is probably the most difficult piece because the seats often get in the way.
