For some reason I can't see the pictures...............................................................................................................................................hahaha JK:
I went wheeling and got to use my winch. It worked awesome. Best $300 I spent in a long time. It is peace of mind for sure!
I called duffy on my doubler. He is still having issues with the heat treater. I am not in a huge hurry. He is a super nice guy and I have only heard good things about him. I have been working on a plan for the shifters and shift bootd and stuff. I think I am going to use this for a boot for a twin sticked Dana 20 from broncograveyard.com
And these shifter Knobs from trail-gear.com probably the 2wd/4wd one for the main case and the mountain blank type one for the doubler. I am planning on using 2 shifter linkages and shaving them down so they will both fit on the tranny bolt shaft thing. They will both come out in the stock location. One will operate like normal, the other will operate simularly only with high and low only. I would like to use some mini rod ends for linkage, just got to find some. I think Big R will have some.
On the 8.8, I picked up a set of MORE (mountainoffroad.com) anti wrap spring perches and a diff ring. The ring is like 3/8" thick! The perches are about 6" long and they have 3 holes in them. I am going to move my rear axle back 1" to accomodate the doubler, so they should work great. I am planning on moving the gas tank back 1" too. I hope to fab my own 1/4" diff cover with the diff ring.
For some reason think your truck is a sport, but I might be crazy. If it is what do you plan for the gas tank? I don't think there is enough room for the doubler in a sport. If not....great build. I've been working with duffy a bit to get his doubler also.
Mine is a sport. All the Navajo's are two doors. The stubler will barely fit if the dampner is trimmed, so with this one being 1" longer I think I can move my rear axle back 1" and move my gas tank back 1++" and be good. That is my plan anyway. With my beasty spring pack and a SOA I think the gas tank can go back more than 1" and still clear. I haven't completely got it worked out yet, but I am going to make it work. If I could find a simular tank like one out of a ranger or something that was a bit smaller I would jump on that for sure. As far as I can tell though, moving it back a bit seems to be the best solution.
The Navajo updates got kicked into action yesterday morning. When I was diving to work I heard a big bang and my rear tires locked up. With some rocking, I freed the siezed rear axle and was able to move it from traffic. I ended up towing it with the TJ for a ways, then when I shifted it into 4 low and backed it in the drive way I had another bang and this was the result:
So I got started on the 8.8 this morning. I got a Yukon Setup kit and ordered an open carrier for my EZ locker. I think I will go with a notched cross pin this time. Tomorrow I will order a new set of Genuine gears. Here is the progress I got done today. Cleaned up and spring pads removed. I ordered some shock mounts from ruffstuff specialties, but I used one of those on a lower tracbar mount/ stabilizer mount on my sisters TJ, so I need to order another set of shock mounts.
I haven't got it apart yet, but I think it was the pinion gear that got loose and detroyed the ring. The pinion bearings had some slop that I noticed a while ago. I sourced an 8.8 last spring from a buddy so I could build it because I had a feeling this might happen.
I think I am going to go with a Blue Torch Fab DIY diff cover. I have a 3/8" laser cut ring and I was going to build a cover off that but it just seems like way too much work! I think the BTF route is worth the time. I am also thinking of mounting my shocks off the sway bar mounts simular to my last setup, but I will cut off the unused part of the sway bar brackets to keep it sano.
Wow, be sure to post up pics of the carnage inside! Have you thought about a Riddler cover? I thought about using the DIY steel plate covers but went with the Riddler and I like it. Weld those tubes up while you have it out too.
Definately welding the tubes to the center section. I am going to do that on every axle I build from now on. My Bro's cherokee spun the tubes on his Dana 35. What a mess.
I dig the stubbler man! I talked to Duffy a couple of times and the heat treater has a hold up on the shafts, so it will be some more time. No problem, I have plenty of stuff to do in the mean time.
I got the shock mounts welded on today and I put in new Timken wheel bearings. Tomorrow I will dig out the 220 welder. I have 4 dirtbikes in front of it right now. Then I can do the final welds on the spring perches and weld up the center section.
I got a really good deal on the Yukon gears. I haven't had a single issue with the Genuine Gears I have in both my 4xs, but Yukons are the best and I can pretty much do a straight trade for them so why not? I have been working with a local guy and he has been getting me some excellent deals on parts lately.
