I hate to say it but the "purple gang" won't be going to Moab this year.
I was laid off 3 weeks ago & haven't found a job as of yet and with everything else happening in the last few months we just can't do it and its to bad because Teri was wanting to drive some this year.

I really hope everyone will have a great time for us & take lots of pictures.

Dude that sucks. Lay-offs have been particularly deep-cutting in my industry as well. I wish you luck with the job search... and I can always offer prayers if you'd like It was nice meeting you last year; we'll have to wheel local when you can.

So, I've read a couple of reviews with pictures of Kane Creek. Of course, the pictures never really look as bad, but I didn't think it looked too bad. How much has the trail deteriorated/become more difficult.

If you have at least one capable rig in the group (incase you need a strap) you can do Kane Creek (providing it isn't flooded). Overall the trail isn't that difficult, but there are two or three climbs that you will have to plan ahead on. I ran it during EJS so there had already been a lot of rock stacking on the ledges, but don't count on the rocks to still be there. The most difficult climb is after a creek crossing and requires a 90deg. turn before you start to climb a loose rocky set of steps. Pick the right line and you can walk right up it, let someone spot you on the wrong line (like I did) and you'll get high centered and turned sideways in a hurry ! This info only applies to stock or superstock rigs. Anyone with a minimum of 33's and at least one traction device will have no problems.

Sorry to hear about your luck Perry, I enjoyed meeting you and the gang last year. I won't be able to make it this year either. My co-pilot backed out, so I'm going to do a tear down and make some major mods. for next year! Have fun guys! Allen

hey guys. i'm kind of comfused about the different stages of the run. i'm planning to run 2+ run difficulty.

is this run going to be available from friday or nothing is decided yet?

sorry for asking too many questions, but this is going to be my first run with a bone stock truck.

If everything is going good for me after friday i'd be up for whatever on saturday/sunday. Lately my luck in Moab hasnt been to great but hopefully this year we fix that.

Chrisis a few of us are going to run Fins and Things Friday afternoon. Its a fun trail with opptional obstacles. Come by Canyonlands campground and a bunch of us should be there. I'll give you my cell number also.

Rick, I was thinking Seven Mile Rim for saturday. I was wondering were you planning on trying to do one trail with all the X's attending? If you were from what I have read on traildamage.com and in the wells book I was thinking seven mile rim would be a good trail some less modifieds may just need a little tug on a few ledges from what it sounds like.

I was waiting for you to throw a group trail out for saturday and then I was going to determine what to do on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. I would definitely like to run some trails with the great pumpkin

Definite trails I would like to try if time permits : Golden Spike & Poison Spider Mesa -- Hells Revenge -- Pritchett Canyon & Moab Rim -- Seven Mile Rim --

Well these are the trails I would like to do, doesn't matter what day Sat or Sunday, I was just waiting to see what the group is going to do. Then I'll know when and which one of these I am going to do.

For Saturday or Sunday I'd like to do Sevenmile Rim and/or Kane Creek Canyon for us on the stock-modified side looking for a workable 'difficult' moderate trail. Sevenmile Rim is highly recommended by some ATV friends of mine so I'd like to see about it. Other than those I'm planning on running Fins & Things Fri (heck I'll run it again if its up on the agenda for Sat or Sun), and maybe some trails earlier in the day with Brian... then I'll probably follow and/or the group for trails the other days.

Suggestions from IFS wheelers on tools to carry?

What are the most common things to break on the 2nd Gen IFS?

I am going to start gathering my tool kit before long, advice would be appreciated.

Just got back from Moab a couple of hours ago. I did most of Kane creek on Friday and the water was not too high, though much of the right side of the trail was eroded away in some places. Got hung up on a small shelf about of a third of the way in, but was able to make it up with a little rock stacking and judicious appication of the e-brake(automatic). The shelves on the climb out werer a little too much for my 31's, AAL & TT; though a better driver/spotter combo might make it up. Dropped the right running board on a big rock on the way back down. Doesn't appear to be any major damage, but my door ajar light/bell keeps going off when I make a right turn.

a wider, althou still unclear shot, of my stuck. lThe left rear tire is in the air, the trail turns sharp right and the right side is all but gone. The long wheel base required some backing to make the turn. Sorry no more pics, but the battery died after this.

Shoggoth; thanks for the updates on Kane Creek! Sounds like a decent moderate trail, now I'm even more interested in running it. Were you on Kane by yourself (ie only vehicle) ? What other trails did you run?

I've only seen one bent, stock, tie rod, and that was on Johnstone's rig in some extreme conditions.

I'll take a look at 7 mile rim in my book. I don't think I've run that one either.

I'd like to do Top of the World if anybody is interested. But it's my first time out to Moab and rock crawling, so I'm probably just going to follow the pack.

7 Mile or Moab rim would be on my list of to-do's. And as long as I can get my rig rolling in time, I'm still up for leading a Golden Spike run on Saturday. I'd also be up for running either of my favorites; Hells Revenge and Fins-n-Things.

This will be my last run with my explorer though.

I'd much rather see a spare tie rod than a CV axle. You could still limp along with a busted CV, but a broken tie rod would take some creative welding just to get you rolling. In either case though, if you're not locked up front and you are easy on the go-pedal you shouldn't have a problem.
