MOAB EXPLORER EXTRAVAGANZA 2001

Andre...I understand the part about driving....and yes mine is my daily driver...when I'm home....But I also don't know the whole history of my truck...And I dont wanna risk breaking down in a cornfield in Kansas or anything with a hundred miles till the next exit! Not to mention I'll have a butt load of equpment in there and it's gonna be packed!....Oh well.....just gotta convince the parents!
Pete
PS--Andre....If I can go...Can we work a cabin deal?
Thanks

Later,

Andre, its not that its a bad idea to drive it to moab, but when you live far away and wheel extremely hard, the possibility definately exists to break something severe, and I'll guarantee mechanics back home will charge you less then mechanics in Moab. Having the trailer as a sort of "insurance" will pay itself off. Last year I even thought of renting a one-way u-haul or something to limp myself back to Denver, but decided to take it slow instead and ended up damaging the vehicle even more in limping it back to Denver. if I'd trailered it back, I probably wouldn't have destroyed my ring and pinion in the rear, which is what cost $300 (if I remember right) plus labor to install... plus Bill rolled his vehicle out there last year, and if it weren't for Paul Bredenhofdt's trailer, he would've had to pay quite a hefty trailer rental fee. If you don't wheel hard, and take the easier trails, then it's a non-issue, if your doing the black-diamonds, have a plan on how to get back home!

You said it man! I want to get it AWN! and the only way I feel comfy doing that is if I got something out there to pull my sorry ass back home when I blow stuff up. During the Pre-Run I busted a Radius arm pulling INTO moab. Now had that been on the highway I don't know what I would've done! It really was NOT safe to drive. So having a trailer would've been extremly handy. Not to mention then I could've had extra parts. I do realize some people don't mind driving out there. I was once that way too. But when you get serious and start breaking stuff then you know its time to have something to get you home safely.

We're there, Whichever date!

Me and the family will be there. I'm taking a week for this trip and will still tie in Ouray,Telluride & Silverton in to the picture somehow. The wife likes the shopping stuff.

We will get a cabin too. Also, I want to be a trailer Queen too. More for fear of breaking something now and getting home.

Great Idea to plan this now. The sooner the better.

Then there is the Event committe planning to do. Which trails & types, Group eating etc.

Gofast,
Once they decide on the dates, let us know what your plans are for Ouray area and maybe we can meet you there. You still need to do Black Bear!!

yes...um...matt....this once again proves you are on crack. ;) moab is in utah.

Ya know, a few years back, most everyone was saying no big deal to drive, but now that many of us are doing serious mods and have found through experience that serious wheeling equals bigger chance of busting something the evolution is going towards trailering the rig. I think that is the way to go also, just wish I had a rig to haul my truck now.
Hmmmm, maybe I should play the lotto more often.

If I go I am Really thinking of that U-haul idea right now... 1286 miles one way... Think of the wear and tear I can save to my Navajo.

Packed and ready

When a date is set, we are ready to go!!
O.K. maybe not quit ready, but close.

I don't know if this is even a possibility, but I would really like to go in March. I am going to leave the country in April and I wont be back for two years. I would love it if I could have one big moab trip with all of you guys before I leave.

I haven't heard any feedback on this. I reall want to do this in march, let me know what you guys think.

OK I understand you guys are trying to convince me on trailer and stuff but for now I'm happy with what I do and all I do is moderate stuff. I won't be going to Moab to "kill" my rig but more just to meet the guys and gawk at their rigs. Perhaps later when I get a feel of it and more experience. Problem is in order to tow I would have to get some serious wheels to tow with. Of course I can always convince my wife on the necessity of buying an F-350 for her shopping needs but you know how it is. Trailer is not a biggy. I have a rental place right near my house that rents trailers for like $55.00 per day. It sure looks better then using some comercial transport company to bring my baby home. Will see how it all goes. For now I just want to get out there and "Explore".

Thanks,

FAAAARRRR!

1400 miles seems a bit far for a weekend of wheelin'...

I'm back....did you miss me

May 18-21??? I like this idea. I'm still not sure if I'm going to get a cabin or use a trailer though.

Does anybody know if there is a place to park a trailer to camp in????

I have heard you can camp almost anywhere. There is also a lot of campgrounds in the area.
We were going to stay in one of the cabins, but if we stay 5 days, it will be cheaper for my folks to pull there trailer.
Has anyone ever pulled a 24 foot camping trailer with a Explorer???????????
There is a chance we might have to do that if we don't have something else to pull it with.

perry....I've towed our 22' with mine. It was a pain in the butt however it did the job. Mine is just a little old sport though. It looks like that's what I'm going to do for Truckhaven too. I have also towed a caddie on the explorer with little problem. The biggest problem was braking, but brake controls would of solved that problem

First time...

For all those that this is their first time for attending a serious off-roading event that is totaly cool. I say drive your own rig out there and enjoy yourself. Once you all see the (pardon my french here) big d*ck syndrome that seems to happen out there when you got a bunch of guys a bunch of testosterome and a hell of a play area to play on with trucks you will see that you don't want to back off when you normaly would and your just gonna show off even if you kill your rig in the proccess. Don't belive me? LOL Thats just fine you don't have too. Its not something you belive till you see and have done it. I have been known to do it and accually take pride in that fact. Otherwise I would've pussed out and not done something that was hella fun! That is the biggest reason people tow their rigs to places to go fourwheel is cause they get it awn and then sometime break stuff.

I've done many many things through the years that I would not have done if others werent there watching :). While I wouldn't call it "big d*ck syndrome" , I just call it showing off, LOL. I tell you waht though, its a good thing theres usually not a bunch of hottie chics along that aren't married... otherwise I probably would've rolled the darn thing several times. No wait, I can do it... watch... just watch... look, I can do it... whoa, whoa, getting a little tippy.. LOL
