MOAB EXPLORER EXTRAVAGANZA 2001

Andre or Riffman, I may just take one of you up on that offer. Free breakfast will be offered in exchange for some kind of bed-like structure. :)

Riff mentioned that he lived in Bloomington. I know its a little off the beaten trail, but only by a bit. Compared to the 1600+ mile journey, its nothing. If I do stay in the area, then North Platte will be a breeze to make heading out. Anyway, we can take this portion of the discussion to e-mail. :)

As for the mountains, you won't see them until just east of Denver, and you won't drive in them until you get to the west side of Denver. Really spectacular. The view as well as the driving are both great. The road from Lincoln, NE to Denver is pretty flat and not very busy. You will probably have no trouble driving 75 or so through there. You will slow down in the Rockies, though. :) At least for the turns.

Tom,
I don't know when the last time you have been thru I-70, but the mountain driving has slowed down because of all the traffic. It shouldn't be a big deal, besides those other guys need to spend sometime looking around. I'm not sure, but I don't think you will see them around Ill.

Better make sure that free place to stay is indoor and not the dog house. LOL

Tom, same offer stands for me and Anne, if you need a place to shack up for the night you're welcome. The dog house here is already full so you'd have to sleep in the house.

Kampy,
Does that mean you are always in the doghouse or do you really have a pet???? LOL

Two dogs, but somedays I think I would be better off trading places with them. Three women in the house, understand?

Ouch, poor Todd! Wait...during those times, isn't the garage the best place? I mean, then ya can always tinker with something...like an axle er a motor....
Pete

Wow!! 3 offers in less than 24 hours. Now I know that you guys don't really know me. LOL

I guess it's up to who I'd inconvenience the least by staying over, or who lives closest to a Bob Evans restaurant. :D And yes, I prefer the indoors, though I've been known to camp out as well.

Seriously, I would think that whoever lives nearest to I-80 would be a good candidate for a "guest".

Perry, I took I-70 from Denver to Moab last year following Ryan and Brett. I think we set the land speed record for Explorers. It was exhilarating to say the least. :) You're right, there were plenty of sight-seers, but at 0800 AM, we made pretty good time. It is a great stretch of road.

straight through

Kampy, you said you've driven straight through to NM. how long does it take to drive straight through to Moab from here (I'm Illinois too)? Our group is going out the week before you guys and I want to get a good idea about the drive. thanks!

Tom check with everybody then and see who's the closest. I'm about 30 miles west of Chicago heading toward Rockford. Riff is way south of us, I mean way out there. Anyway, till May I think we can set everything up. I just ordered my Smittybilt with a winch plate and soon I'm gonna be working on reinforcing it and installing my Ramsey. Bug got me. And Tom,,,,,,,,,,, the only place that's close to me is Lennys........eh, Dennys. No Bob Evans, sorry.

ATTENTION

If you have not reserved a room yet, Rick has just informed me that he and Char will be staying at the KOA and have cancelled their room at the Silver Sage.

Someone needs to grab it quick if they want to stay at the Silver Sage.

Thanks for the heads-up, Gerald. I'll be sharing a room with Peter Weber. I hear he snores in German. :D

Anyone else though, it is comfortable. I stayed there last year and they had brand-new matresses. Slept like a baby, except I kept dreaming that I was driving off the edge of "Top of the World." It's not Bally's on the strip, but it'll do.

PS Oh yeah, Andre, you're right, we have a bit of time to work this out. I've got a couple of things I want to do to the car before the trip as well. Like get that defective wiper switch replaced. :)

Actually my room has not been cancelled. I'm waiting until someone from our group grabs it before I let it go to the general public.

Yep, KOA. We have a camper on the Dodge now, so it's off to the campsites with hookups.

Hey, I was leafing through four by mags at Wally-World and I saw a cover that made me jump. "Hey! I know that guy!"

If there's enough interest, I can scan the cover with none other than Rick and Char's truck blazing across it and post it here.

Way to go Rick!

Please don't post the cover on the board. I don't want to get in trouble for copyright infringement. Anyway, I think most everyone knows about it or has seen it.

Thanks for the thought though.

Yeah, we've been mumbling about it for a while now ever since the mag hit the stands.

On another note now, I have room at Silver sage reserved but I'm gonna be all by myself. If anyone is looking for a place to crash let me know.

Tom, looks like we all want our rigs to look and work their best at Moab. I'm spending close to two grand withing the next few weeks on a couple of toys. That should keep me happy for a while. Ever since this bug got me it was nothing but constant modification frenzy. Especially after my first off road outing. Anyway, let me know who wants to share that room at Silver Sage with me. Remember though, I talk in my sleep, pretty fast so you won't understand but still.

Later,

well..i don't know about you guys...but im still excited...but its getting to the point of patheticism (is that a word?) as i have been dreaming about moab lately....

*sigh*

:D
