Andre or Riffman, I may just take one of you up on that offer. Free breakfast will be offered in exchange for some kind of bed-like structure.
Riff mentioned that he lived in Bloomington. I know its a little off the beaten trail, but only by a bit. Compared to the 1600+ mile journey, its nothing. If I do stay in the area, then North Platte will be a breeze to make heading out. Anyway, we can take this portion of the discussion to e-mail.
As for the mountains, you won't see them until just east of Denver, and you won't drive in them until you get to the west side of Denver. Really spectacular. The view as well as the driving are both great. The road from Lincoln, NE to Denver is pretty flat and not very busy. You will probably have no trouble driving 75 or so through there. You will slow down in the Rockies, though.
At least for the turns.
