My 700R4 went in today

inode said:
hey i was just wondering if anyone could tell me about the 700r4 kit from advance adapters, will it work with the flywheel from a 5 speed manual transmission or do i need to locate a flexplate from an automatic trans?

-Anthony

You will need to locate a flexplate from an auto tranny.

What has everyone been doing for cooling lines? It'd just be nice to know what has worked and what (if anything) hasn't. I'm looking at the bowtie overdrives hard line / soft line kit. How many have used AA's lines?

Are the C5 trannys any better than the A4LD??? Im looking for a good strong auto to replace the A4LD but i dont think i have the money to put into A 700R4 and i dont know about having enough to mod a C4 to fit. Are junkyard Trannys a good idea or is that just a mistake just waiting to happen?

I just have stainless steel brakeline material routed all the way to the tranny cooler.

The c5 should be fine, and it's the cheapest option. They come in Bronco II's, and they bolt up to your tranny and transfer case. Make sure you get the bellhousing, flexplate, and torque converter also. You will need to modify your transmission crossmember. CoryL is running a c5.

so the C5 and the C4 need the different bell housing, torque converter and flexplate, right??? u thought the C4 needed those parts and the C5 bolted right up. Thanx for answering my q's :)

Either one needs the c5 bellhousing, torque converter and flex plate. The difference is that you can get the c5 stuff a lot easier with a c5. The main difference cost wise is the fact that you can reuse your old tcase with the c5, but you'd need a different one with the c4.

Lastly :), Is the C5 reliable??? Between the C5 and C4 which is better, asides from the price to get the torque converter, flex plate and bellhousing. Are these better tranns over the A4LD other than their lack of Overdrive? THANKS YOU MAKING MY LIFE ALOT EASYER!!!!

I hear that they hold up to abuse a little better, though I have no personal experience with them. They are closely related, the c5 being a more updated version. I think the only difference is an increased number of clutch packs, or something. Performance Mustangs run high horsepower in front of a c4, so it must be able to handle some abuse.

Cool beans, o shot coryl a pm about the C5 but i havent gotten a response yet. I thought there were alot of weak components on the B2's but the tranny may have been one of the things not posted where i read it. I say this because i think someone told me the C5 was in a b2

Edit- for referance B2 is Bronco 2 in my eyes

LOL :banghead: leave it to me to forget

Well the tranny lasted 100 miles! Took off for Ouray yesterday and only made it 20 miles out of town when it blew out one of the front seals. Now I get to pull it out again. Mabey this time I'll take picks and do a complete writeup.

Jefe, For cooler lines I cut and reflared the stock lines and used adapters to reduce the stock 3/8 line to 5/16 (the size used on the 700R4) then used short sections of braided 5/16 line to connect to the tranny. I don't like the setup and (now that I have to remove the tranny anyway) I'm going to redo the whole thing using braided hose.

Jefe, I used stainless steel flexible cooler lines. Little more expensive, but much easier to route.

Sorry I haven't seen this thread before, but flying back and forth to Japan is taking a lot of my time right now. When I am home, wife has a honey-do-list 20 pages long. Looks like there is a lot of good info here.

If anyone has any questions for me, PM me as we have a very slow internet connection underway and I will respond quicker as I don't generally surf the site due to bandwidth issues.

That blows!!!! But since you are taking it out, do a write up for us :p

Looks like the cam system developed by bowtieoverdrives for the 4.0 is NOT adjustable. They told me that I could loosen the TV cable to lower the shift timing a bit.

I think this is a band-aid solution, though...and after studying how the TV system works...I've learned a few things...most importantly that the shift timing is controlled by the rate at which the TV cable is pulled to its fully extended position as the throttle is opened. That being the case, I think I have an idea for modifying the cam system for the TV cable that will permit adjustability so that it will shift at a more conservative RPM for daily driving, yet can be adjusted to shift at higher RPMs when that behavior is needed, like when you want to :burnout:
:p

I'm going to try this idea out when I get some time...I'll post my findings.

Well, I pulled the tranny back out Saturday. The builder didn't stake the converter bushing in the front pump and it walked out, allowing the fluid to run out the front seal. Its back in and I took several pictures, so eventually I do a writeup on the install.

Mike, hadn't seen a post in awhile and was wondering how the tranny was working out?
