My latest project: 1970 Dodge Dart 512 C.I. Bracket Racer

Some of you may remember that I used to have a 1972 Dodge Dart which I drag raced.

Well, I got the itch to get back into racing:burnout: Our new house is only 3 miles from the Speedworld racetrack and I can faintly hear them running the cars from our house. It was just too much for me to bare;) I haven't been doing much in the way of local fourwheeling, so I thought drag racing would give me something to do on the weekends.

A couple weeks ago I bought a 1970 Dodge Dart off of E-bay. The car was located in New Jersey, a mere 2500 miles from home:eek: I decided this was the right car for me mainly because I really needed to get out of the house on my own for a couple weeks and this was just the excuse I needed;)

The car is going to be stripped and repainted. It will get new quarter panels, at least one rocker, one floorpan, new door hinges, fiberglass hood, bumpers, and most likely trunk lid as well.

The new color will most likely be orange, but it just may end up being red, like my old one. Plans for it include a 650HP, 512 CI, big block Mopar and an automatic transmission. I'm just not sure if it will be from BB or SB or whether or not it will even be a Mopar:eek: I plan on ditching the torsion bar front suspension for an aftermarket K member which gives you rack and pinion steering, upgraded brakes, and the choice of coilover shocks or airbag suspension.

The rear end in the car right now is a trussed Mopar 8 3/4", with a three link suspension and coilovers.

I found this while looking through some photos of my first Dodge Dart. It was drawn by a friend of mine. "High Ball" was my CB handle:D And I always wanted to name the car "Poison Dart"

Ahhh, good times:D :burnout:

Nice car!

I always wanted a Hemi, but they are still way to expensive.:(

Nice car!

I always wanted a Hemi, but they are still way to expensive.:(

And it sucks that the prices on Hemi's is only continue one way UP^

Pretty stupid too... I shouldn't even have to consider putting a BB Chevy in my Mopar, but hey, Chevy makes their :burnout: stuff affordable:dunno:

Be different, put a 460ci motor in it, that'll really piss off those mopar guys :D .

Bought a hood for the car today for $100 off of Craig's List:D:thumbsup: Perfect shape and even close to the right color;)

god that looks like fun. hey rick, i'm supposed to be in phoenix in a few weeks, mind if i stop by and have a look?

That would be fine. We're way off the beaten trail, but if you're coming in or leaving via I-10 I can give you directions which take you off the Interstate at Quartzsite and brings you right to our place. PM me.

Now this gives me ideas! I bought a 1972 Dodge dart 4-door for my son to help me re-condition, (he hasn't touched the damn thing for three years, it's just been sitting in my driveway) and it only has 75k original miles on it! It's all original with the 225 slant six, but I'll bet it would be real easy to put a 318 in it and make it move pretty good. Damn, now I'm thinking that this is gonna take money away from my explorer, I'll have to come up with something else. Oh well!

Forget the 318... Grab a 360 and you'll be a lot better off power wise. Or you can be nutz like me and plan for 500+ cubes:D:burnout:

Speaking of '72 Darts. This page shows my first Dart which I got from my Grandma back in '78 when I was 16. www.rhphoto.com/dart.html

You decide what motor your putting in it yet? I've got a '76 360/TF727 with a 3/4 ton rear axle. All complete just needs a rebuild as the motor/tranny has somewhere in the neighborhood of 300k on it.

I decided on a big block. I'm looking for a 400 or 440 and will get a stroker kit for it.
