Well after having been rained out for the last 3 months I finally got a chance to take the Mountaineer to the strip and make a couple of passes. Lets just say I was pretty disappointed in the results. My old 91 with the slug 4.0 ohv, ran 18 seconds a couple of years ago. So I was hoping for a lot better. Hopefully the headers will help out.

Here's my best time. (I'll post scans of all 3 slips when my brother wakes up)
Well the scanner doesn't like the receipt paper, I'll try to figure out a way to get them scanned tomorrow.

Best run (second run)
R/T .588
60' 2.451
330' 7.093
1/8 10.926
MPH 64.73
1000' 14.193
1/4 16.982
MPH 80.53

Did it slow down each run or stay about the same?

I know that they're pretty good numbers compared to the numbers on the TM site. So assuming that mine would have run similar to that one in stock form, I gained .4 of a second from just the intake and exhaust which is pretty good. I'd be happy if I could pick up at least another second, and run high 15's.

Drop some 4.56 gears in there and you'll see much improvement. ;)

Get some stickier tires and get that 60ft down in the low 2.0's. Lower gear ratio and a good LS. Power is a good thing to have but you want to make sure your putting it to the groung as effeciently as possible.

I already have 3.73LS gears. And AWD, so tires aren't going to do much for me either. The tires won't even spin on a gravel road, let alone a drag strip. I'm not going to do gears until next year when I decide how much I want to lift it.

It takes 10HP to lower your ET by tenth of a second... It definitely can get expensive:D

I dont know how strong the explorer transfer case is but you might wanna try 3k launches if you can get away with it. i drag raced in an awd eclipse for a few years and awd can be tricky to launch. The first 60ft are very important in a drag race. If you can get good hard laucnhes without bogging down or breaking anything your times will drop.

I was at the track last night and saw your mount. Looks good. I am a regular in the bracket race series at HPT. THe track seemed to be really good for a Wednesday night. In regards to the question I asked about if it slowed down, Ford computers tend to adapt to how they are being ran. If you want consistant times each run, try dis-connecting the battery cable between runs. It worked for me.

I'm waiting to see him on Pinks :D

Next spring I'll start with gears, and then lift and tires.

Its going to be hard to have your cake and eat it too. The bigger tires will negate any good you do with the gearing. If you are going to lift your truck, you should stop caring about how fast it will go and vice versa. Getting an explorer to go fast OR capable off road can get expensive. Trying to do both..... good luck.:salute:

I don't plan on doing both, I'm going for speed this year. Then I'll do gears first thing next year, and make one last trip to the drag strip. Then it's getting lifted, and won't go back to the track. (They probably wouldn't let me run anyway)

I am surprised with the results of this run. The 4.0L sohc is a little faster at the dragstrip than the 5.0L. HMMM! Not surprising is how darned consistant your truck is.
If you are looking for performance parts gimme a shout.-James

Update, it seems the bad weather had more of an effect than I thought. I was talking to a friend of a friend that was out their earlier in the night and he said that he saw a 05 mustang gt, and a 99 z28 only run mid 15's, when they had both run 13's in previous trips to the track. So Who knows how much better my times could have been without the 80%+ humidity and heat.
