New to the scene, but not to the game.

My trucks are lifted and I tow with them lol. I guarantee you my lifted v8 bronco ii with 4 wheel discs and adjustable suspension can tow
More then a factory bii ever could ;)

Yes, but is it your tow rig of choice for 7,500 pounds?

properly designed lifted suspension>poorly designed stock suspension... with that beiing said, iirc theres no way to *legally* increase capacity.... with that being said, i think RangerX shared a ranger with a dump bed and extra axle iirc... now that could increase capacity ;)

7500 lol no way Jose
4500# behind bii I’m on the bump atops
But a 3200 lb boat works just fine or camping trailer pair of atv’s stuff like that
My dads boat is 14,000 just the boat! That is the heaviest thing I tow and i use the f350
Or excursion diesel

Point well taken

I think it’s totally fine for very occasional, or short trips. I think it’s the wrong vehicle to regularly tow 7,500 even at stock height.

The intention was not to build it to be a daily tow rig. I own a lot of property and on occasion take my Ford 2110 tractor with various PTO attachments back and forth. It would just be nice to be able to pull my 16ft trailer with tractor and 1-2 attachments to the property with the explorer, as it will probably be my vehicle of choice for driving around out there. I had a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Mercedes OM642 3.0L V6 turbo diesel with a tow rating of 7,500. I didn't think that would be to outside of reason to achieve if built properly, and towed via a frame mounted hitch rather than a bumper pull, but again it's not going to be a daily thing. Just on occasion like once a month during the growing season here in Texas.

Ditto, the transmission and tow vehicle mass, plus tire traction, are major factors that decide towing capacity. You need a very strong trans, great cooling, brakes, plus the weight of your truck itself is important. People forget these things or they never get discussed.

Okay gentlemen, so after quite sometime I finally got around to installing the body lift. I had anticipated on the install happening much earlier, but life kicked me in the balls repeatedly for the last several months lol.

The whole install only took about 6 hours total. Thankfully my access to a lift, professional equipment etc. helped the process quite a bit. The biggest trouble of the whole job was the radiator mounting. After following the old body lift write up on here I found that it was written for a V6. Apparently the 5.0 has MUCH less room, and an extra condenser-radiator mounting tab that the V6 doesn't. After a little cutting that was taken care of, and the it was a matter of strong-arming the damn thing in place lol.

Everything else went rather smooth, and was relatively painless. I left the bumpers off because I will be doing the ranger suspension lift, and getting custom bumpers built for it. So no reason to go through modding the body lift brackets etc.

I also got a bunch of extra parts from the previous owner so I did the Mercury front end swap, and it looks MUCH better. I will be painting the Mercury front clip later. I know the color doesn't match right now, but I'm not driving it so I don't really care right now. Just wanted to install it and see how it looked.

But, here she is now. Waiting to get here suspension lift followed by wheels, tires and new bumpers.

Wicked!! I love the color, does it have the blue leather interior?

my old 96, 3" bl, 5.0, E303 cam, 4406m, 4.10 LS, TMH, Charcoal 2000 mounty interior....I loved that truck!!

Thanks for all the compliments guys! It was a fun install, and I'm really looking forward to continuing it. At the moment finances are going to be the biggest road block. This economy has taken a big crap on my head lol.

Very good, nice truck. Was that Mercury grille an OEM, or did the aftermarket make one? I ask because I bought a new one like that ages ago to do away with the chrome. I later found a used 3rd/4th gen grille emblem and saw I could make it fit with some work.

Yes that's an OEM to my knowledge. The previous owner is one of our parts department associates. He was collecting a lot of parts to do a lot of conversions.

Yes it currently has the blue leather, but I also have a full set of blue cloth seats as well. That's a great looking truck man! What diff setup did you go with? That will be something I do after getting the 35's under mine.

Agreed! Those will probably be later down the lime as well. I'm always open to suggestions. I maybe a professional tech, but you guys are the experts here on these. Experience goes a long way. So I'll be doing a lot of searching and reading here as this build processes.

iirc being a v8 you and 410 have 373s, as 410s were never factory on a v8. stye came with only 355 and 373, but very seldom was a 355 used iirc. so most likely you have 373s. so with upsized tires, some like 410 and mountaineergreen iirc swapped 410 diffs from a v6 truck in. one upgrade to the LS is the ford racing clutches as well as iirc throwing in an extra clutch, i hear they grip well! or a powertrax noslip (on my list of to dos myself) one could also go to 456 or 488 depending on what you plan to do with it. 488 has more torque than 456 but willl rev higher on hwy, that kind of stuff. not sure about the v8 but for a v6 id go 456 or 488 for 35s, probably 488s for me given i have a 373 standard and want a tad bit mroe gear than stock if i ever regear. that being said with a v8 456 could work well, or 410 for more a highway gear 456 will put you very close to stock, but of course will be more expensive than the 410s given that you can find 410 diff at a JY. 410s are well matched to 33s in a v8 i hear, but youre going with 35s ;)

ALL 5.0 EXPLORERS ARE 3.73 ALL OF THEM

I used a front and rear diff from a 98 sport I found in the yard with 27K miles on it, 4.10 limited slip :)

for 35's you will want 4.56 with the 5.0 and the auto

I changed my entire interior out for the charcoal leather from a 01 mounty......the light blue body with the charcoal late model interior was AWESOME, bye bye wedgewood blue or whatever ford called it. took 1.5 days to swap interiors completely, it was a very nice upgrade for that truck.
I had too many vehicles and the 96 was just sitting for 6 months at a time, I wanted tracks for my rzr so I sold it for $4500 (that was ALOT for a 96 explorer back then) I miss that truck, but it was the right move. The only problem is the kid I sold it too didn't like it because "he was getting passed by hondas on I-70 on the weekends" tried to RETURN IT FOR A REFUND AFTER 3 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!
what a ****** bag, its a 4wd on 33's you idiot. I hope he sold it to somebody who appreciates that beast of a 96, with the E303 cam and the headers, 4406 t case, it was an awesome rig, should still be around Littleton Colorado with any luck

The 3.73 gears are the perfect choice for any stock tire sized 302 Explorer. But then how many have changed a lot and the idea of changing gears comes up. I wish it wasn't so hard to have the front and rear diff, rebuilt etc, today's economy has screwed everyone. So we need to do more things ourselves, as I'm planning to learn how to do the R&P job, the crush washer(spacer) etc.

Lots of people can post up what tires and gears they have, how well they work on and off road. I'll be the first to let you know how 3.08 gears work too, as one of my first project steps. The 4.17:1 trans 1st gear requires a change.

actually, yeah ive never come across one myself. odd that it would be mentioned in the brochure however if it was not possible.

removable rear windows in the bronco II were also in the brochure, magazine adds, and the owners manuals..... they never made it to production

oh, how interesting! i just assumed if its in the brochure theres gotta be at least a fee running around somewhere, good to know! especislly cause itsnjust the 00 it seems. cant find brochure for the 01 so cant confirm there. but the pre 00 none of then say 355 all are 373 there, and every v8 i have come across has been 373, so youre probably right!

OEM car manuals and brochures are very very often full of incorrect information. The earliest 2nd gens had a rear reclining seat option. But don't get your hopes up, they existed but the amount of recline was maybe 3", and super rare if you ever see one.

Don't believe books, listen to people and assume they know more, which is why we are here.
