Pre-T-Haven

Prerun

Were in for all day the 18th and 1/2 day the 19th. My next door neighbor Bob (Green Hornet) and son Robert will be coming along in their Cheep Jerkory. Don't wory... he won't hold us back any... it's pretty built, lifted locked etc. ;)

One thing I GOTTA do is prerun the Pinion Mountain Trail over in the A/B, 'cause I'll be taking a group there for the main event, and I haven't done it in about 5 years, so I don't know what the current trail condition is. I'ts a good little run, if some others want to go too. Body damage is a definite possiblity though. Tom, sounds like something you'd be into :D

BlueDog, Saturday morning at 6:00a.m. sounds good. I will be there with with coffee in hand. What happenrd to Friday night?

Ray, tell me a little more about this trail. Do you need lockers to get through it? Mine should come in the week of this run and I don't plan to do the install until after. If I can do it w/out lockers and no one else will run it, I will go with you.

Pinyon Mountain Trail

Mac, No, you won't need lockers. It's a skill trail, with obstacles like: "The Squeeze": a downhill passage between large boulders, with about 2" clearance on each side, and a slight off camber just to make it interesting. Then there's "Window Basher" a large anvil shaped boulder overhanging the trail at a a narrow point, with trail rocks located so the vehicle rolls toward the Basher.... very hard on sport ute rear windows, I Know!!. Heart Attack hill, is down hill, but very loose, so the only way down is an uncontrolled slide. You really have to trust your spotter on this trail! Otherwise it's wash running with a few step rocks, and with interesting scenery, like Split Mountain, Wind Caves, Elephant Knees, etc. Should take about 1/2 day... unless the group also wants to go over to Shell Reef, and the Devil's Slide to play on the sand dunes.

Char and I are going to arrive Friday night around 9:00pm. We need to leave Sunday after about half a day.

We're looking forward to another great time at T-haven!

friday?

Mac, since breaking my wrist this week, thought I would be content with just the two days, but now that I see Char and Rick are going to be out there friday night, I want to be there then. Do you think you can meet at five, friday night, same place?

I am pretty sure I can be there by 5. It's cutting it a little close, but I will be there.

I'm gonna try my best. But i have a feeling that i might have to park my rig on some of these trails that you're gonna go on. I don't want to slow everyone down. I'm hoping like most of truckhaven there are some ways around some of the obsticles. We'll see.

Rick, I am not familiar w/ the area out there or where the camp site is. If you plan on rolling in arround 9:00 p.m., can you think of a good spot to meet myself and BlueDog and any others that caravan Friday night? I think monitoring a CB channel would help also, 19 standard or 35 for the Great pumkins tire size?

Colin,
ordered the rims today(tues). Should have everything mount/balanced by thursday. I ordered the rims like Ricks. American racing 767. Thought it would look little different with a white truck. I'm now ready.
Gonna check with my dad to see when he wants to leave. Last time we went to t haven we left farely early and went and had breakfast in indio.
How many people are going so far? Grand total?

Mac, 9:00 is just an estimate right now. I will be monitioring Ch4 that's our regular channel out there.

There will be two challenges to finding us at night. #1 is finding North Marina Drive. Once you find that you head west, (away from the Salton Sea). Follow the paved road till it turns to gravel and continue until there is a fork off to the right. The fork is just before the first set of hills that you would come upon.

If you find the fork, follow the trail down 1/4 mile at the most and we will be set up to the left of the trail just in front of a small hill.

I'll try to bring out a sign to stick in the ground near the fork to help direct people.

Geez Rick, I'd think just parking the Explorer on top of that hill would be more than enough.. The orange should be visible from the highway! But Matt's Vegas on a revolving table up there would probably be best.. Then again, some aircraft could mistake that for a airport light..

As for me, it's looking good! I've got the truck back from the frame shop, it's tracking nice and straight now! It passed smog (somehow - check engine light is coming on at wild times now!) and it's headed in tomorrow for a detroit locker in the rear (I want it locked!).

As for timing, well, I'll probably be leaving Oakland/Berkeley around 5pm, so I'll be pulling into T-Haven around 1am saturday morning.

What time saturday does everything start?

Probably about 9:00am. Good to hear your truck is doing better. I think I may be do for a visit to the frame shop, I want to see why it's leaning so much to the left.

Late arrival

I have an exam Saturday from 10:45 until 1 p.m. I won't
make it out until 3 p.m. Where will I be able to meet
everyone? I plan on doing a "night run" if there'll be
interested parties. Let me know what's up...

Ken, read Rick's previous post w/ the directions to the camp site. I have a little green trailer that will be at camp. It has a 2 ft. flat section in front and then a 5X6 ft box behind that. If we're not back yet, just make yourself at home.

Talk about a long list to get done, just to say I'm coming to this thing!

Wow. Finally completed the prep list - plates, smog, detroit, alignment/frame work, rotors/pads.

Sheez.

Anyway, as of this moment, I'll be there very early (about 1am) saturday morning (and looking for a spot to throw down the tent and bag).

Ray H - Let's get dented! :-)

BlueDog, are you still going to make the Ramona K-mart Friday night at 5:00 p.m.? Is anyone else meeting there? Only 4 more days, I can't wait!!!!!

yup

yea, if you are going to be there, i will. i almost backed out on friday night wheni found out that the free style mx comp. was going on at the sports arena friday night, but don't worry, we'll be there.

Oh yeah, I'll be there. I did find some room for firewood but I won't be able to supply it all. If everyone coming could bring a little, it would be great. It is going to be cold at night so bring warm clothes and extra blankets. Looks like low to mid 40's at night.
