Current 5 day outlooks leave it cold, but dry!

firewood

we have plenty of firewood. Once i take out my subs, i should have plenty of room. I think we'll be there sat. at about 7-8am. What time did you guys want to start wheeling on sat.? That will depend on the time i need to leave in the morn.

A Little Added Color

History 101
Locally known as Old Truckhaven Trail

This route began in 1929 when Doc Beaty, an early homesteader and promoter of Borrego Valley, concieved the idea of a wagon road passing between Borrego Badlands and Santa Rosa Mountains to facilitate travel between Borrego Valley and Coachella Valley.

Local merchants donated money food, mules, equipment and labor, but hardly had the road been completed when storms gashed its grades and gutted its roadbeds. Until the area became a state park, maintenance was too expensive for the homesteaders to handle alone. Even after that, with bulldozers periodically clearing it, the trail was rarely used. But now, and since 1968 when it was paved, passenger car motorists can visit this extrardinary terrain where awesome views of delicately tinged badlands cascade into sandy, palm-strewn washes surrounded on all sides by miles of sun-varnished rocks, black as Pegleg's legedary Gold!

I just bought 4 bundles of firewood today.

Rick and others

What time did you want to start on sat.?

Saturday morning

I'm pretty sure that Rick and everyone else would like to get started no later than 9:00 am. I was planning on leaving to get me there around 8:30 - 9:00 am.
Brian- let me know when you are leaving and maybe we'll hook up for the drive out there.

9 sounds good

sounds good, gives us plenty of time for breakfast before everyone else shoes up.

Cold weather + cold fodd = brrrrrrr!!!

I am bringing a small bar-b-q. I am not eating cold food except for lunch. I am also required to roast marshmellows:) If I can be there earlier, I will definately do so and call you at both numbers.

Pinyon Mtn

Bob (Green Hornet) and I plan to arrive around 8:30 or 9:00 Sat am.

I'm Still planning to prerun Pinyon Mtn, but might do it Sun am, not sure yet. Is anyone else interested in making that run too, and If so, is Sat or Sun best for you? Now if I can just get the front bumper mods done in time....

Just wanted to let everybody know that I will be there. I won't have the explorer though. I will be coming out with my buddy in his Jeep We plan to be there in time to roll out at 9:00.

great news

great to here your going to make it Jay. who you coming out with, kelly?

The weather report for Saturday is near 70 daytime and windy, and 30's at nite! Who knows how windy it will be, but I suggest preparing for high wind just in case. This means good stakes for your tent, and consider goggles and scarf. I've seen tents blow away out there, and low visibility from blowing clouds of sand. The wind can blow sand THROUGH the fabric of your tent!

Also, for those who have NOT been there before, are you sure on directions? You turn off Highway 86 onto North Marina Drive. The turnoff is 2 miles north of the intersection of 86 and S-22.

Jay, good to see you'll be there!

Ken, when you get to camp and we're all out on the trail, drive up a hill, and monitor Ch 4. Call out every 15 minutes or so, we might hear you, and if we do, I'll come back to camp to get you.

See everyone Saturday!

Ray - don't you need a permit from the park to run that trail?

Park Permit??

Permit, Permit???? Actually if you go as an organized group, yes, but if you go as a bunch of friends, NO. Remember all the group-ungroup discussions early on about T-Haven 2001? A key factor is that no money is changing hands, ie no entry or guide fees charged by the group or leader.

We will have to pay a couple of bucks per vehicle at the "Honor Station" at the trailhead though, but I think the trail is well worth it. You'll especially love this trail.... lots of opportunity for body damage!! a couple of pretty tight passages between BIG rocks..... one is even called "The Squeeze" and full size vehicles won't fit!
