Actually it was a fender bender - last winter kiddo decided to have his first "wreck" in the school parking lot - in the pr0cess of trying to straighten the door it fell off - ruh roh! mostly because everything is rotted. Quite the project

Nice. Best to get it out of the way early, and on a ride that can take the damage without turning into a piece of shredded plastic and steel.

Massive Oil Leakage....

Well The first real cold snap (3 deg. F/windchill of -8 deg. F) and this morning Humble started with the bump of the key. I let him warm up for 10 minutes and hit the road. On the expressway climbing a decent grade I noticed a puff of smoke behind me and a oil sheen covering the back window.

Son of a ***** - now smoke billowing so I slowed down and pulled off at the I94 Oasis and checked the oil. Not super low, but under the truck it was starting to look like an oil change without anything to drain into.

For the past few weeks it has had a bit of a leak around-ish the ream main seal - no biggie. Today I noticed fresh - wet oil underneath the lower intake - The very lower intake I changed the gasket on this past August. Then looking on the back side I notice fresh wet working its way down the transmission bell housing...

Of course this happens when it 1 degree outside. So now I am going to have to dump a quart a day in her till I get a garage to use in this cold and a day off to take it apart again.

Well today I got down under and did some cleaning and looking - did this in a parking lot on some card board when it was 14 degrees outside... Anyways I started thinking it might be valve covers and got all warm and fuzzy... Nope - no such luck when I got under the truck I could clearly see straight up to the valve covers and see that they were dry as a bone. So I am looking at a serious repair now...

>I can pull the trans and pop in a new rear main - but I don't have a garage and it is COLD AS HELL outside.

>I can drop it off at the same shop that working on my Ex right now and he will do it for $446 (but First I'll have to get a second job)

>I can put $446 worth of oil in it (But first I'll have to second job)

>I can get a 4.0L and pay to swap it in - probably about the same amount?

I Love me some HUMBLE!!! UPDATE!

Well so after some reading I decided that I would try to replace the "brand new PCV Valve" I literally just replaced it but in my mind it was ####ing stuff up.... How else could a bone-dry motor become soaking wet with oil in less that a day???? It was wishful thinking - but it paid off!!!!!!!!!

I yanked out the "Advanced Auto PCV" and replaced it with a Ford OEM one and said a little prayer...[God Please let this stop the leaking] Low and behold! The new PCV valve did it!!!! Something was wacky with the other one! Unfortunately the damage is done and now I have some severely damaged seals BUT at least it has stopped spraying oil!


I topped off the oil again and headed home (a 75 mile trip from work) I cleaned off the back window and the whole way home there was no "oil sheen" on the back window - no billowing oil smoke - and best yet, when I got home the oil was still full!


I know to some it is piddely winks, but to me it is proof that Humble is the awesome truck that won't let me down, not now... Not during the hardest time of my life. Damn I love my truck!

Go Humble. Glad you got it sorted. Sounded a bit scary for a while there, not to mention freezing cold. Well Humble is, once again, down... I killed it in 2nd and it wouldn't fired back up. Of course this happened 40 miles away from home and in a busy intersection. I suspect its either the fuel pump or relay. It isn't "priming" when I turn the key. It just cranks and cranks.

Major bummin today - I just can't seem to catch a break with this truck lately.

First the freeze plugs, then the radiator, then the clutch line the wheel bearing, then the rear main seal and now the flipping fuel pump. All easy enough fixes just poorly timed/placed break downs... I was hoping I would at least be okay for a 2 more weeks so I could get my Ex registered/insured - nope.

Sorry to hear that mate, c*** of a time of the year for this to happen. What do you reckon you'll be up for, price wise, to remedy old Humble?

I just got off the phone with Tony from 1A auto and he can get me the pump only for $144.00 shipped. I checked on Jeff's Bronco Graveyard and the pump is only available with the sender for 89-90 model year and will cost a heavy $299.00. Not gonna happen right now.

I did get my Ex Sport back from the tranny shop Saturday and all is well with that but I have to register/insure it before I can drive it -

I have an old fuel pump in my shed somewhere -the pump is good, sender is bad - So I guess I'll have to find it - hopefully I didn't toss it. This just sucks that I can't get 2 weeks of drive time with out something crap-tastic happening.

Sounds like you need an ark its raining that much. Maybe someone will have a spare sender lying around and can help you out? Eventually the rain does stop tho' and old Humble will be brand new Humble.

In every RBV owner's life there are times when the crap hits the fan, when everything goes out at just the wrong time and in just the wrong place. We struggle and strive to bring our trucks back to life, taking risks and placing our credit cards at their mercy. And when it purrs to life we jump for joy, then slowly wait for the next part to disintegrate. It is at this point we slowly realize we do not own our vehicle's...they own us.

Lol. Felt a little poetic today. Anyway, I understand man. Hope you still have that pump.
