lol I was only joking Karol, Wheeling with my bald tires will be that much more of a kick in the ass for my to save up my money and get new ones. :) Sunbum there is a thread around here recommending the stuff that should be brought when out wheeling but i can't find it. All the stuff you have listed is good to have but you're also going to want hand tools, a hi-lift jack, tow strap with loops not hooks, frame mounted tow hooks front and rear if you dont already have them, Extra clothing and food/water, spare parts if you have any. This run isn't going to be anything to serious, if you break anything we'll be able to get you and your truck out safely but I always pack heavy, I'll have all my tools, hi-lift, fluids, spare tie rods and CVs some other little things. plus that other stuff i listed earlier i bring with me. I think thats most of everything.

As this is my first excursion and may be someone else's, could we post what should be packed (obvious or otherwise) just to ensure we're all equipped properly?

Personally, I tend to overpack but don't want to leave something out either... Thanks in advance.

I still need to arrange to meet a locksmith to free that "bolt" in my hitch as well. I'll try to do that today.

Otherwise, I have:
Spare now tucked away, CB, Shovel, Blanket, Ratchet straps, Tow rope, Multi-tool, Jumper cables, First Aid Kit(with JD), Gloves, Axe and a Tarp with Rope (for any bodies).

Fill in the blanks if you see any, for my and other's benefits. Thanks.

I like to carry pretty much all the same plus a 12"x12" piece of 3/4" plywood, hi-lift jack plus bumper attachment, a set of ratchets, a tire plug kit, extra fluids like motor oil, tranny, brake, etc.. and pretty much anything else I might need.

Time was short when searching today, but Im still struggling some (and I did consider myself a good searcher) to find a list.
Thanks for your input Blee... I did find this for anyone else wondering/needing info:

Required:
· Water, 1 gallon per person per day minimum, 2 gallon minimum in summer.
· Card kept on your person with emergency contact info and medication allergies
· Personal supplies for at least twice the time you plan on being out:
If you are going on a morning trip, pack a lunch and trail snacks, beef jerky, fruits, dry/canned food, etc. If you are going on an afternoon or all day trip, assume you may spend the night in the vehicle and pack accordingly: medications, flashlight, batteries, matches/lighter, and blankets & gear appropriate to the environment, area, and season.
· CB: do not even think of showing up without one!
· Fire Extinguisher
· First Aid Kit
· Spare Key kept on your person
· Towstrap, at least 20', bare with no metal hooks/brackets attached
· Full Size Spare Tire, lug wrench
· Standard Bottle Jack with 12" square wooden platform for use in soft ground
· Basic Tool Kit
· Fix-A-Flat and/or Tire Plug kit and air compressor (12 volt plug-in or other)
· Trash bag, for your own as well as other's trash
· Towpoints front and rear, frame mounted

Radio frequencies:
Once in town and while on the trail, these will be our frequencies. If you can tolerate it, we suggest you do not squelch your CB in order to maximize reception. During Moab 2000 a group of us on the "Top of the World" trail heard another Explorer in town (30 miles away and 3,000 ft below us) and tried to respond, but he had his squelch on.
CB: channel 1
2M Ham: 146.520 Simplex

Whether or not this is overkill or standard, you tell me.

Additionally, I'm still screwed with my hitch :fire: :frustrate :banghead: as the locksmith couldnt get the bolt out either. He said I need some sort of "die grinder" or whatever unless we could drill it out. I'll do what I can, these people close up early and traffic sucks after work. I wish I still had the box so I could write/call these assheads and thank them for making the interior steel and not brass... genious. Now its rusted and WD40, etc. gets the key in but it wont turn to release the other end. :frustrate:
If I come up and the lead doesnt feel my X is trail worthy, I'll head back home. I'm ~1 hour away but that would be a drag and I might be out $55 for the room. For some reason, some things are a struggle to get done around here... tow hooks that are lame and/or out of stock, hitches that bite one in the @$$, etc.
In the interim, I may need to grab a few more things for the trip. Hope this info is correct/helps... surely I'm not the only trail/park newbie?

What's the problem with your hitch? what bolt do you have to cut off? I'm gonna be helping spas mount up tow hooks on her truck and i have an inverter in my truck to run power tooks off of if there is a bolt that needs to be removed we could zip it off real fast with the grinder.

Snow Schmow... I made a three hour drive home in the worst blizzard I've ever seen earlier this year :D

As far as being concerned with major breakage, I AM bringing my tow truck, so if anyone needs a tow home that badly, it's covered (I wouldn't dream of charging you guys either..buy me lunch and we'll call it done) :)

Glad the subject of not being registered on the RC board came up..I forgot too!!! Easily remedied though, as was the hotel room that I reserved today. Sunbum, there's enough room in the one I got if you would rather save yourself some money and share- I don't snore THAT much (I still don't think I snore at all and it's just the guys being mean  ). Lefy, you still need floor space dude?

Blee, you REALLY don't want to camp up there this time of year- talk about frozen solid!! Everywhere north of Harrisburg stays cold even in the summer, so Y'all pack a lot of warm gear: you won't regret it!

jbigguy, it'll be nice to have another 91 along ;) Lookin' forward to meetin all you newbies!

I have my spare radioshack Cb if anyone needs it, although you'd have to use your own microphone and antenna.

WOO! Hahaha! I'm really gettin psyched about this one, guys (and gals!) :D :D :D

Yeah I'm not going to camp there, I'm just going to make the drive Sunday morning. Hell, I get up every morning at 5:00 for work so I think I should be able to do it one more day. Hopefully I don't break anything up there, cause I don't have any spare parts laying around. I just hope my CB comes in by Friday or else I'm going to have to go to Radio Shack or somewhere and get a cheap one.

Thanks for the offer Spas, I snore too (according to my "roommate" heh) so between us, we may rock the room and I dont want to be responsible for people falling asleep at the wheel. ;)
They can always put you in my room if youre too loud too... I'm a good boy and we'll see who wakes up whom. lol
I sorta got a government rate at this point, so money isnt an issue, but I may have to take a reg. rate. I was a lil confused over all that but its no biggie either way.

I'd love to see how/where you mount the hooks. I don't have any yet and would like to get that done sometime before I need them on a more aggressive trip perhaps. I've just not found any around/in stock that I like... been to a couple diff places too! advance auto, ...
When are you doing that?

My hitch... its not easy access per se.. aww hell, let me go take a pic..

The knob on the right side there is the pain.. the left is where the key goes in.
Yes, my propellar needs to be replaced badly but I can't get that damn bolt out. It's affecting my gas mileage now because the blades dont turn. ;)
Seriously though, if someone thinks they can remove it, I'll buy your drinks. :)

How about using a sawzall and cutting that sucker off? I'm wondering if using a cold chisel would work. If all else fails, take your truck over to a fab shop or somewhere with a plasma cutter.

I dunno if I'll be able to get in there with the grinder, i'll have to take a look at it. Might be possible to drop the hitch down and either cut or drill out the stud that way. Though i dunno if i can gauruntee your propeller will stay in one piece. I'll take a look at it saturday night.

Yeah, a sawzall was what I thought would be about the only thing at this point. Would take a good blade to go through steel. I half thought about my dremel tool but I already burned one out and dont want to do that again, not to mention it would take all night. heh
I dont care how it comes off as long as there's no damage to the integrity of the hitch.

Heh screw the prop. I could knock that off with a blow from my nunchakus.

It looks like it's a hardended shaft so it'll be a pita to cut with a sawzall but a grinder would take it off, but that's really tight quarters to work in it looks like. it would probably be alot easier to do if the hitch was off. what part is siezed anyway? the shaft inside the hitch? or is there a lock on there some where?

i was just looking at the picture again is that the lock inside the cylinder on left in the first pic? if so might be able to just drill that out. I got a pretty hefty drill and some decent bits.

Doug I wasn't kiddin

I would let you use em for the day if I had room lol it's going to be interesting watching you get down the street with bald tires in this "wintery mix" ie ice I'm thinking about leaving Fri night if it's going to be that bad.... told work that if they don't see me Mon afternoon they know where I'm at, at least

Karol

oh yeah

I have tire chains too but they are for 32" tires... hhhmm think they would squeeze onto 33"'s???

Karol

my tires arent THAT bad, they still have ~1/4, 5/16" of tread on them i can get buy for one more week, i'm eye balling some brand new 35x12.5 r 15 pro comp m/ts 4 of them for 559 with free shipping, I'm still thinking about it but i might buy them tonight.

Yes, there's an internal cylinder which has a small catch in it, like a parrot beak almost. The locksmith showed me on another model and suggested a drill method.
With the limited access, a drill should do it and might be the best thing to try first.

The bolt or shaft itself rotates, its just the internal mechanism/cylinder which frees it with the key in that doesnt want to rotate/let loose. Most frustrating, and all that to protect a $25 prop, but a friend of mine said ppl steal them if you just have the pin in there, so I bought a locking mechanism. Grr.

My dad bought a locking one but the lock it self slides over the shaft and it's held up pretty well over the past couple of years. I definantly think drilling the lock will be the easiest method, breaking out the grinder will be messy. On a positive note, I'm 559 dollars poorer.. I just bought 4 new Pro Comp M/Ts.

It's just to bad i won't have them for this sunday. :)

BRING 'EM!!! We can try to get them on. If not, then I do know someone with 32's on......:D

Brian, if we can't get the pin out easily, you should still be able to slide a towstrap between the bumper and the hitch, and then wrap it around the hitch "if necessary" :D
