Redline Tuning Hood Quicklift for 2nd Gen-Now Available!

I have a 1995 but I replaced my hood struts and tailgate struts last year with some Stabilus struts. They are working fine.

The question I had is this (please no haters here), my other SUV is a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4, it has a prop rod and I would love to have the Redline kit for it. I emailed Brian at Redline and he would like to make a kit for the Pathfinders but needs a donor/test vehicle. Any chance anyone here has a Pathfinder that they could bring it to them? I am a little too far.

Long Shot I know but worth a shot.

I would try and find a Pathfinder forum and see if you can find someone from the Ann Arbor area to do what Bill did.

Yep, that is my alternate plan. There are not alot of people on the pathfinder forums so I thought I would try here first. I asked Brian if I could copy/paste his email and that is what I would like to post on pathfinder forums. Thanks celly.

I never dealt with Brian. I assume he works for/with Andreas (Redline Owner).

On an unrelated (but related) note, I ordered the Elite set yesterday and just got the FEDEX confirmation this morning. I won't get to install them for a month or so because they're off to Kansas to hook up with my Torquemonster Headers and other goodies waiting for me at Jon Smith's place (aka Turdle, mod extraordinaire and Powdercoating guru).

Yes, Andreas & Brian are the cofounders of Redline. Here is all Brian needs to get the Hood Quicklift going for R50 Nissan Pathfinders (with permission from Brian to copy):

Thanks for writing…

I thought the Pathfinder had gas springs from the factory – if not, we need to line up an install for this vehicle, we have a lot of the Nissans completed. If you have access to a forum and can find a volunteer to contact us, we’ll get this moving – unfortunately we do not have time to monitor the 1000’s of forums, but we’ll add this one to our list and would like to get it done.

and 2nd email:

Sounds fine - volunteer will receive the system installed for free and we will need about 2 hours of their time to complete this.

Thanks,

I wish I had time to drive up to Ann Arbor, that is an Amazing Offer!!!!

Just a bump for a very cool product. After helping Andreas develop a kit for 2nd gen Explorers, I scored a set shortly after they were released. I had them sent down to Kansas so we could install them as part of my header install. Jon (Turdle) pretty much did all the work installing them and the install was pretty straightforward.

We were all very impressed with the quality of the kit. I ended up going with their best quality kit (upgraded struts, powdercoated brackets). The hood goes up with authority and stays there. I was messing around with the setup while I was still in the States and actually popped one of the struts off by mistake and the hood stayed up with only one strut in place. Try that with OEM or equivalent!

A worthy upgrade.

I'm very impressed by this kit, and the instructions.

One of these days I will have them. My " to do " list grows daily it seems.

sigh

I figure this would be a good thing to have when winching, so you could open the hood for extra protection without running a tie down strap across your roof

I gotta get to purchasing these. Hopefully in 2-3 weeks I will have them.

I think you'll be impressed. They definitely work as advertised.

so im not out of it, but whats the difference between the redline ones and the stock ones?

The redline ones are about a million times stronger. The factory ones just aren't big enough to hold the hood up and they fail. And the replacement factory ones usually don't last more than a year before they give up too. And the last thing you want to do is have the hood come crashing down on your head or hands.

I have them on my list also. I want to wait until I've finished with painting, then I'll do final parts to finish things.

Brad, how do you like the SS struts, I like the pictures of them all.

Don, supposedly the SS struts are a higher quality strut than their base offering. It's not just in the cosmetics. You can tell when you see the kit in person that it's a high quality setup. I'm sure their core offering is excellent as well (i.e. the black struts).

I'm very impressed so far with the setup. I don't anticipate having my hood come crashing down any time soon like what happened with OEM replacements (Strongarm brand). As mentioned, it only takes one strut to hold up your hood with this kit.

I have not had a hood hit me, but I have scraped the top of my head on the hook of the hood, twice. That POS is sharp edged, I promised myself the first time I would smooth the edge. Cars can hurt you.

Well if it counts for anything, the struts hold the hood higher than OEM so less likelihood of hitting your head on the latch. I'm short, so it took some "practice" to get used to. :D

Sold! Where's my credit card...

The shocks in this kit took all my weight to compress-which they recommend you do before installing them. And, their fitment alone will set your truck apart from the rest.
