I think the v6 swap is the better choice, I'm missing to much crap at this point for an easy swap.

Hey stranger!

Umm, what am I lacking here? I do have a long list going already and it is looking real long to be honest.

Gas tank
fuel lines
transfer case
shifter
drive shafts
gears
upper intake
accesories and brackets
gem module
pcm
wire harness
pats stuff
radiator(?)

And all the other stuff I am missing.

crap

Gas tank
fuel lines
transfer case
shifter
drive shafts
gears
upper intake
accesories and brackets brackets are still on the motor, most of the accessories are gone though, would need a/c lines too
gem module
pcm still have the pcm
wire harness have most of it, missing a couple of connectors though

pats stuff would have to have pats disabled, or a dealer match the gem and ecm, and match the keys to it

radiator(?) not sure if the sohc would work

And all the other stuff I am missing. I think with the amount of stuff I have missing finding a rollover/wrecked 302 would be cheaper, and we could use my spares to fill in where you are missing parts.

crap

What i did with mine that was SOHC with bad engine, i just picked up cheap newer SOHC engine swapped it in, i had to change fuel line on engine to match the older style 97 return style mine was, but rest was simple.. May be alot cheaper than rebuild..

I think today I will go get a fresh battery, some coolant flusher, a jug of new oil, and see where this thing really is.

I plan to check compression first, then if that goes well I will just try tio fire it up.

After calling the shop and asking more questions, I find it had compression and would not start. All they really tried was new plugs and wires.
Since this is a tire shop ( he was working on it as a favor for the owner who is a friend) they called another shop which said "chains" and they parked it out back.

Now i wonder---could be a lot of other things. Lets find out ok?

Trans fluid looks nice and pink. 148k miles on truck.

On a side note--man this engine fills the bay. I think a 5.0 leaves more room to work. Geez---

WoW great find, and subscribing as usual. Looking forward to more of your stellar work. I bet those wheels would look great powdercoated in that graphite metallic grey to match the grey on the truck!

Yes indeed, I got the grey 2 tone just for you! Hoping to match sliders and bumpers also.

I might get different wheels though, if Cyber ever gets his new ones mounted.

Wait, if his truck was on blocks, would he even know? I wonder--

Drained the oil out and put in some new stuff, drained the coolant and added some flush with distilled water, then pulled the ( brand new --never fired off) spark plugs. God does not want me to own a sohc engine, and I told him so several times getting those stupid plugs out. Who the heck engineered this mess?
Anyway, I gave ol' rojo a love rub and put in a brand new battery. ding ding a light on the cluster said "fuel reset" so I reset the fuel inertia switch, turned the key and heard the fuel pump. ooops,
I pulled the fuel pump relay then cranked the engine without plugs to spin it a bit for a compression test.

Poop
Non happy tapping type noises come from the engine during cranking, although the engine does turn over. I can only assume this is the valves hitting the pistons.

Wow! Another project! You got some energy man .... or need more kids! ;) Congrats!

heh.. i have a huge scar on one of my knuckles from changing my spark plugs, and that's with a body lift and fairly small arms/hands ;)

i like the red! looks better than the paint on mine!

and when you start making some bumpers, make an extra one for this ho right here :p: I'm realllllyyyy wanting a sweet rear bumper/swing away spare tire holder dealeo and also some rock sliders.

let me know when they are ready!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

May have found all the needed stuff to convert to 98 v8 PCM, using techiemans engine--
found someone not using a 98 lower intake or injectors--nor do they need the column, Gem, pats harness or PCM---

Think I will need to convert the 2k engne in a few other areas--will a 98 cam sensor cap attach to a 2k sensor drive unit? 2k also uses a different oil sender-

what else am I missing that will need to be changed from 2k to 98?

2k trans should work fine with 98 harness yes?

Hi Daniel! I hope life and the married things are treating you well, :)

Yes this is an interference engine. I gotta hurry if this thing is going to be ready for prom night.

So yeah, I got all this from a 98 v8

Hey Jon,

Not sure what all else you need, but I have my faily complete 96 motor and trans sitting here doing nothing for me.
Let me know if you need anything.

well, thanks forthe offer!

What I am doing is converting 98 v6 to 98 v8. Techiemann33's engine( which I intend to use) is 2000,and in 99 the fuel system was changed to returnless. So, injectors and cam sensor must be swappped to 98

It was either that, or, convert the truck to 99-up just to make use of the injectors and cam sensor.

So, what you see in the picture is a steering column with keys, a pats module,PCM,GEM, trans and engine harnesses, alternator harness, intake with maf and injectors, 98 cam sensor, coilpacks, and variousother stuff. Bonus was all this stuff was already pulled. They were going to use it on a 65 mustang but decided to go carb--

I forgot a few things but he's holding em. Power distribution box, ac condensor, ( radiator was toast) and cast manifolds-downpipes--o2 sensors and such are still there.

Funny how things work out. We sold Matt's totalled 98 earlier this year, and I now realize I should have kept it. gravels--

How big of tires do you wanna run, id sell you nice set of 265/75/16 pro comp extreme ats on 16x8 procomps ?? to u $700 then I could afford to come to Smorr...
