Secondary Transmission Filter Installed (Feedback)

From what I've seen, most people aren't hiding them. They seem to be getting put in front of the drivers side front tire, or down low, in front of the radiator (in the grill area).

In one of the pics above you can see where I mounted mine (on a First Gen). I moved the charcol canister and put it there.. If I had an inner fenderwell you wouldn't see the filter. I don't have access to a 2nd gen so I can't tell you if you have the same spot available (I also don't have a v8 which I'm sure makes for a tighter fit under the hood)

tranny started to slip out of 1st ?

today for the 1st time...ever,my tranny started slipping after it was hot {today was a warm day 70 degrees},
and my gauge hit 105.
From 88 degees and up,it slipped out of 1st.

I'm taking it in for a complete flush right now.

What does that mean slipped out of 1st- like it went into neutral? It slipped more on its way to 2nd.

How is flushing going to help an undefined problem- didnt you just have your tranny flushed? If so the fluid should be in fine condition. I would spend my time on finding the problem- have someone check the pressures and do a test drive. Could be a ton of things- maybe a loose valve body or a bad VB, or seperater plate gasket, someone just had a thread going about that one.

Good Luck

so far the flush worked !

what I meant by slipping, was that it was shifting way too early, almost stumbling into 2nd without enough power built up.
and another one of the problems as of late was that the actual secondary filter would not get hot anymore ?
my gauge would read the outside temp when the truck was 1st started, then climb to about 20 degrees
above that max.

since the flush, the filter must be getting better flow cause it now gets HOT !,my temp was 160 after flush,105 before, and it was much hotter outside before the flush.
I'm also not experiencing anymore shift problems.

Here's my filter setup

I was able put it under the hood

.
I tied it right in the radiator with a 3/8 with a barb.

As for the gauge

I found the wire that does all the dimming.
(On my 92 X) it's the blue with the red strip

Faria.......HA!

Keep that gauge out of the sun. Have a friend with a couple of those sticking. The front plastic piece that covers the meter movement warps and rubs up against the needle. Looks like metal but is plastic. I sliced almost 2/3 of the circumferance around the back of te case and resealed it with tape. When we tightened up the mounting screws, it pulled the needle away from the interfering cover. Had to do that on two of his Faria gauges so far.

the Faria gauge it a temp

I will be getting a

which looks better and will go with my dash

looks even better

Hey that that one looks even better then the one from auto meter. The cheap one that comes with the kit I got sucks. But i was able to get all the wiring done.
Now all i have to do is get a good replacement one

njsjfonline

Keep an eye on that connector and switch.... It looks fried.

ya thanks

But it's been that way for two years now
I had a switch go and it burnt that wire a little bit.
BUT thanks for the 411 on my wire;)

update

Hi all i;m on my 2nd tank of gas, with the new fliter setup. My trans feels great. This week I'll be changing the filter. Yes Yes I'll be opening it up. I also did a VM change With both done It feels like a new trans.
Thanks Guys

I just wanted to post in here that I got my 2nd tranny filter installed. And of course I will post back with results.
Here's how it's mounted...

View from the drivers side. Well out of the way of the tire.

Me too!!

After reading of the success of installing an auxilliary transmission filter in this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums...4136&perpage=20&highlight=Filter&pagenumber=1
I decided it would be a worthwhile mod. I also wanted to add a transmission temperature gauage and needed a place to mount the sender.

I decided on a generic filter mount rather than a kit, so I could fabricate everything just the way I wanted. I ordered the TD products #:TRD-1028 Single PH8A filter housing from Summit for 12.75. I picked up a bunch of brass fittings from Home Depot, and 3/8" hose from Autozone.

I struggled to find the ideal mounting location. I wanted to run a full-height filter, have it vertically oriented, be easy to change and be out of the way of rocks off road. I found the ideal spot to be right behind the passenger side bumper.

I fabricated from brass fittings the inlet/outlet for the 3/8" hose and the attachment point for the Autometer temp sender.

It is plumbed in between the two transmission coolers. The circuit runs from the transmission, into the radiator cooler, out to the filter, to the auxilliary trans cooler, and back to the transmission.

The hose for the filter required relocated the vacuum reserve sphere for the climate system from above the plastic fender lining. Fortunatley, there was plenty of space below the MAC intake, and there were even holes in the sheetmetal!

I was not impressed that ford ran the transmission lines under the already low radiator. I cut them back to above and behind the radiator and ran new rubber hose. The hose will be permanently secured soon, and a skid plate will be installed.

Your filter bracket did not come with a port in the middle for the temp sender?

Nope. I debated about that fact, but it didn't really matter in the end except for the extra fittings needed.

Hank and Gimp

Do you have any pictures of the filter and cooler locations.... and possibly the plumbing??? it would appreciate it if you could forward them to me at TooFastNYC@nyc.rr.com.....

Anyone else with pix of the same set-ups please forward them to me.... Thanks

Joe

V8 BB..

looking at the pic of your adaptor,it looks like you wrapped the threads of the temp sender with teflon ?
any probs with that,I thought the switch is self grounding via the threads ????

looks good though,really nice !!

I'm thinking of redoing my setup with a bypass filter {smaller than my oil setup} for better filtration.

Thanks - I only used one wrap of teflon tape around the threads. The brass cuts through it perfectly, I get 0.000 ohms from the sender to the chassis. It's just enough to seal the threads, not to much to be an insulator.
