i was told to find one off a 91-94 , something about the wiring i guess...i haven't drug it home yet and it hasn't been torn down either...

ok, i found a used 4.0 from a 93 ranger i am going to buy...if anyone knows of any problems of just swapping the motor into my 91....please let me know...thanks

burns helped me out with all the info i needed, thanks burns....i just got a call and the motor will be delivered to me in the next 45 minutes...woo hoo

just a note, the guy i'm getting the motor from is the same guy that made my tig welded shackles for my ranger...

and am i the only guy who gets all giddy when he gets a new part for his truck??? lmao

the motor has arrived, it's mine woo hoo...it came with a harness and whats this....i also got a computer....i can't wait to get my project X home...

do you guys have "private inspection" in cali? you no 65 to 100 buck to "buy" a sticker

mud bug 94 , we have a smog inspection and they do a visual, a smog test, they test the gas cap and radiator cap...whatcha thinking????

carlover thanks...right now i'm needing my upgrade on my AAA to kick in...i'm needing to get the rig home and my AAA will be free after a weeks wait...otherwise i've been making calls and the cheapest tow i could find is 250 bucks...i need to see if AAA will put me on priority to get this done...

Good luck! Some others have had problems getting lifted trucks towed. I have also heard rumor that AAA sometimes excludes lifted trucks from their policies.

shhhhhh....she's not lifted, she came from the factory that way, lmao...i do have another option i'm looking into...get a mechanic there to put the motor in for a reasonable price and hopefully drive it home on a temp tag...

update: registration paid today including the 40 dollar late fees...it is only due for a regular smog test and then i get tags, woo hoo...AAA is sticking to their guns so i'm currently working on plan B, finding a local mechanic there so he can swap motors and i can drive it home....i got to justify my cost right now...

We should be able to get it from Elsinore to Anaheim Hills somehow. If you can find someone with a trailer, i can get a 250.

thanks froader, i didn't see your post...it needs to be hauled to my shop cause they wouldn't let it live in my neighborhood, ccr's and all that, even if it was running....i did think about the trailer thing too but it would have to be wide and the truck is on gravel...it would be hell pushing onto a trailer...thats why i was thinking of having AAA tow it to a mechanic there and letting him do the swap...if i get it to my shop i will work on it day and night and completly miss the pismo trip...but i do have a mechanic on call here that will do the motor swap while i'm in pismo

i know,lol...just the narrowing of possibilities of finding someone with a wide trailer and a winch on it...actually, i don't know what the tire spread is but it is wide....i am working on phone calls right now looking for a local mechanic there...
