Well I got 1 of my toys early :D

New

A bit late to the thread... but I'm going. I'm going to try and get out there Thursday night to stake our claim to the new campsite. If I can't get there Thursday night I'll be there around 11am on Friday.

Off topic, but what a day...

First thing this morning 1 mile from the house I got a flat. The flat coudn't be repaired so I sprung for 4 Nitto 555 ZRs (two of our stock Goodyears were already about bald. Can't imagine why:burnout: ).

A little later sitting in a drive through the car starts to idle VERY rough. I figured out that whenever the electric engine fan came on the engine would start running rough. It continued like this for the next few hours.

Char ate through the Mach 1s front brakes in 16,000 miles. She said the brakes just started squealing. When I drove the car today I shuddered every time I had to step on the brakes. The inner pad was metal to metal and the sound and the feeling through the pedal was horrible. It seems Ford didn't include the wear indicator on their brake pads. The aftermarket pads I put on have them. I guess this way Ford makes more $$ on rotors.

After that I changed the airfilter... No biggie, but when I pulled the intake tubes I saw that the coil wires were being pinched under their cover and had not been properly installed after the car was worked on at the dealer. I pulled the coil cover and inspected the wiring. It was really smashed down, but there weren't any bare wires. I'm thinking that could have had something to do with the rough engine since that problem has not shown itself since... or not it could just be another one of those random events that will never show itself at the dealer it will just come back and haunt me from time to time :rolleyes:

This is all I have for a bumper right now. (Well, it now has a purdy Aluminum fairlead. )

With all the rain falling in SoCal (more than the Seattle, WA average... and the year isn't over yet), it's going to be green, green, and green out there.

Hope it drys out, and stops raining by then.

COOL!

A picture of my reworked bumper;

Another (notice how I notched the body panel so the winch and control pack fit);

RA mounts look nice Brian :thumbsup:

So is your rig actually going to flex now? :p

Do you always follow a compliment with a burn? :confused:

I don't know how much more flex I will get out of it, but it seems like the suspension was being stopped in down travel by the bushings, so it might help. It will save me from replacing those bushings 2-3 times a year anyway.

Now that kid who does this stuff for me is trying to talk me into coilovers. Says some class of truck races them with stock beams and coilovers due to class restrictions. He is a off-road race fan and says they do very well. I can't justify dropping another couple grand into the rig right now, so its on the back burner.

Class 7S is what he's talking about. I would say don't do it with the set up that you have, unless you were going to start driving it like.........I do.......... :rolleyes: Those trucks do very well for having stock travel. I don't think they would be beneficial for your application though.

That is what I was thinking, but he was convincing.. I think I will just leave it as is for now, maybe a straight axle later (a lot later).

They are saying another dose of rain is due by early next week but it is supposedly a weak storm. I can see both Mt. San Gorgonio (Big Bear) and Mt.
San Jacinto (Palm Springs) from my house and they got some serious snow :eek: It's a Kodak kinda day :D

Same in San Diego, without the mountain view. Cool, blue skies, nice breeze, oh yeah!

I won't be able to make this one.

We are going to Hollister with the Grass Valley Wheelers. Should be fun. Sorry Brian, next year.

There's no mud at Truckhaven...yeah right!!

I went to check out the conditions there today and for the most part its drying out. I was over in the trenches cruisin along when all of a sudden my drivers side front tire completely dissapeared :eek: I was in 2wd at the time so i had to dig my way the the drivers side hub to lock it in :mad: After that I put it in 4 lo and moved maybe 4 inches back...whoopee. I decided to go track someone down...i wasn't far from Marina dr. and where people were camping. Luckily a CJ was coming my way so I flagged him down and he was able to yank me out of there.

I plan on being out there. Took the ranger for a drive yesterday and am getting some type of nasty noise coming from it. If I can find it Ill be driving my chevy out.

Who all is bringing firewood? I can probably bring as much as I did to january run again. maybe a bit more if I bring my chevy. Hopefully I wont be the only on bring firewood.
