Thanks Don. It isn't all that big, but just big enough. lol It should do just fine. Wish I had a dimple die right now tho. That would help a bunch on something like this.

Moving forward, as Rome wasn't built by pizza chefs...

ARB doesn't say it can't be installed outside of the rig, it just warns against water getting sucked into it, via the air filter if you do. Good enough for me. It is a trade off being back there vs under the hood. I have to run the wires vs the airline. The wire harness that comes with it, is crazy town clown posse insane tho. It's about as big as our engine harness, with just as many connectors, leads on it. Wiring it will be the hard part of the pump install, for me at least. It does come with 8ga wire, 40 amp fuses, and a 40 amp relay. I already have 8ga and a beefy fuse block inline, ran to the back of the cargo area inside for the compressor installed already. Hmm....to leave that setup, or to use it for this. Ack, the thinkulater is not clocked right, at this moment. Some sleep might help.

Here is the messed up part of this mod.

I called a gear shop to ask how much to install the locker. They said $600 to remove a carrier, regardless what they do to it. They also said they have to furnish the parts they install, for warranty. I told them too late, I already have it, but it is new in the unopened box. They agreed to install it as long as the box remained closed. When I asked about the pump, they said an hourly charge and expect at least 5 hours, and maybe more, depending on the job. Well, now... after all the crap wiring that was just done to this thing, I ain't going there. Hard lesson to learn, but I learn. so I told them I would install the pump, and they just do the locker. They said no problem, just bring it in after the compressor is installed.

Ok, the evil twist...

The parts needed to install on the compressor, to operate the locker, is inside the locker box. Yeah, it isn't going to that axle shop.

Always something with these thing-a-ma-bobs.

$600 for a locker install is on the high side. Yes you have to drill and tap the housing but it's still just a simple carrier swap. Chances are only slight adjustment to the side shims will be needed and I'm betting you have a new shim kit already. The bearings are just pressed on, no shims behind them to measure. I feel if you had the right tools you could do it (dial indicator, micrometer, press, brass hammer and punch)

While I have worked on these carriers in the past, I have yet to install anything bigger than a lunchbox locker. I have swapped the ring gear over, and checked the wear pattern, but have yet to attempt a backlash setting. I do not have the proper tools either. Besides what you mentioned, I don't have a housing spreader, and something tells me, it just might be needed on this one. I have a stack of left over shims from past work on this thing. It has been rebuilt like 3 times in 10 years now.

This 8.8 has the Yukon C-clip eliminators, and the crush sleeve eliminator. It will be a bit different to do, than a normal 8.8 install. I checked with ARB, and they said, this locker works with non C-clip axles as well.

I called a small home based 1 man shop that I know of here. I set it up with him to do the locker install, and he is much lower in price, than the axle shop. Makes sense, less overhead. I have used this guy once before, and he made a good impression. I just have to get this dang ARB coocharator to start cooching with the cooch switch. Then bring him the rig.

@gmanpaint I really have to say love all your words you used on the last few posts you did here. The crazy thing is that everyone reading this will know what you are talking about.

Love what you did for your air thing a ma bob. :-) Gives me Idea's for having on board air for my rig. Right now I have a portable one that is in a bag but would like it permanently mounted in my rig. Just wanting to find a place for it. Debating up in engine area where AC is at or in cargo area. Not sure yet. :-)

Well, just like my great great grandpa Von Helsing Leaderhosen used to say, "It's not the public's fault, they can't understand you, take the corn cob out your pie hole."

Either place will work if you have room for it Jeremy. If you go the backside of the mule, Just remember to up the wire ga size the farther you go back with it. Minimum of 8ga to the back, with no less than a 30 amp fuse/relay, for positive, and 4-6 ga for ground. that should get the ole coocherator, cooching well.

If it wasn't for the need to go to the ARB select-able locker, I would have installed the Vair 480p system. Cheaper and comes with everything needed for a full onboard Flatulator system in a box. I will most likely be adding a tank up above, the hemorrhoidal tissue dampners, cross member for this setup.

Right now, I am just trying to get it ready, for the locker install coming up shortly. The precipitation of late, is always drowning ants, on my free time.

Oh, and my breakfast burrito, microbial gas disbursement machine, gave up the magic smoke after 12 years. I need a new one STAT.

Hey, Ive been looking for a garage fan.
I know you shop your prices....What are you buying?

Not sure yet. It croaked earlier today.

The Lakewood HV2 that just went poof, ran flawlessly for all them years. No signs of going out, and jumped off the cliff unexpectedly.

I would buy another if I can find one. I just don't have the room for the ginormous shop fans.

On a completely off topic rant.... I stopped for fuel earlier, decided to use the ole debit card at the pump, and pumped 5 gals of go go juice($15 US), and they took $100 out of my account. I just needed enough to make it back home, and fill up where I normally do. Really? $100 hold for 3 days for 5 gals?! Bunch of Richard craniums.

I cant see the 18" ones (My preference also) and the 24" ones are like $368.00 canadian each. Makes my eyes water.
I'm hoping you find a delux solution at a fraction of that cost. lol

Do you have a Northern near you? I get their email ads regularly, and I needed a fan a few years ago. I think my 24" size was maybe $100-$125, it has two wheels and two speeds, tilts horizontally(but doesn't stay in place well). It works great as a fan to blow mosquitos away for an area about the size of a car.

That looks great too, and it's more portable.

I love Amazon, that's always on my list to check on. I hate them at work, but I'm a good customer.

Thread derailment time....

Work on this rig this morning got cancelled, by a busted lawn mower, and time repairing it. Then the weed jacker, decided to break the primer bulb. Got them back in working order after many colorful verbage's. But wait... I fell into a mole hole, and about broke an ankle. Then a ****** canoe in a new Vette, tried to take me out as I was cutting along the road. I found a new Bee hive, and they introduced themselves to me. Not very polite bugger roos. Grabbed the leaf blower that fell from the wall, and duct taped back together, and it worked fine. Things are looking up!!

Not sure why all my trust worthy stuff is deciding to mess with me. I didn't do jack diddly to them.

Back to our regular scheduled program...

I was reading the ARB install manual, and they say that certain early years of the 8.8 had bad oil drain holes for the axle tubes. They said they was corrected in later years, but not what years. Supposedly, the bad housings had the drains up high on the center section walls, and they moved them lower to actually drain the tubes back into the center. I never really looked that close at mine to see where they are. But if mine are the high locations, I have to drill new lower drain holes. I would think that after all these years, I would have heard of this by now. Weird shiz Maynard.

If anybody is interested in a perfect 8.8 Lock-Rite Auto Locker, with open carrier, hit me up in a PM, I will make ya a dealio for it. It will be available after the ARB is installed. First come, first served ;)

Well done to wade through the issues fighting you around the house. I think Murphy must have moved nearby, that's a long list of crap to fly through.

If Murphy did move in, I will be heading the charge, to get his ass out of here.

Btw, roundup is expensive shiz.

Now to figure how to wax the hood, and keep the satin stripes satin. Lol

I have been trying to do something, on one of my projects everyday, no matter how small or simple it maybe. Progress is progress, is what I am told.

Today's simple work was finishing this cooch box, for install tomorrow. I spent more time on this little thing, than a session massaging the little man in the boat. What can I say? I'm an all in, kind of moron.

Drain holes drilled, vent slots cut, etching primer & topcoats put on.

"If women don't find you handy, let them borrow your hand, and let them do it themselves " ;)

Ok, managed to sneak away from myself, and finish this cooch box install.

Got the air line, filter, and the edge trim on. Made a template and drilled the holes into the support dealio.

Threw some hardware at it, and locker her up tighter than an iron clad Chasity belt, on a Nunya in training.

There is about 2" of clearance above it. Plenty of room for body sway.

Next up is the dreaded wiring. Did I mention I was slow at this electrical stuff? Might be a while before this gets updated. lol
