Rock Ranger, ten years from now you will be glad you opted to stay home and take the test.

I think one of the best times of the trip was when Colin was having trouble getting up a hill I would have never even thought of trying (and in a position where he could not back up without taking out his fiberglass sides), and Winter and I were at the bottom talking. Winter says "I must help him" like some type of offroad sensay, and runs up the hill. A few seconds later, Colin is up and around the area he was having so much trouble with. I don't know what Winter said, but it must have started with "Grasshopper......."

 COOL!!! Video Rick!! That turn out nice!!:D on both truck's. I would love to do more of that kind of driving now!:bounce:

Im not sure about that. It is a test that didnt count towards anything but we still had to take it

How many times did winter have to tell colin to stop worrying about the paint :D Seems like last time that was said every few minutes.

Hopfully this summer Ill be able to hook up with everyone again and do a few trips somewhere.

Matt

Man, i guess my dad and i missed out on some good stuff on sunday. I want to go back out very soon and take my truck.
Rick you took some great pictures. Thank you for letting the old man ride with you:p . Colin thank you for lettting me ride with you too out there. This was alot of fun.
Paul, your truck is awesome and when its done morphing it's going to be..hmm..better than awesome? lol..i cant think of the word i need.
I'm hoping that maybe we can get another trip back out to thaven before the heat comes back. Let me know if anyone has some dates in mind. I know arizona is in a couple of weeks. But let me know.
My dad had a great time. Not to bad for 61 year old guy!!!!! He wants to get the yota back out. But this time possibly locked in the rear. We'll see.
Thank you again to everyone out there.

No problem Brian. It was a lot of fun having your dad as a passenger. He's a great guy.

Guys, it was great to see some of you again, even if it was only for one day. Especially since I had to miss the official Truckhaven event this year.

Bill and Paul, thanks for letting me ride with you so I could concentrate on taking pictures (and get to places my stock Explorer would never make it). Since I took pictures for Four Wheel Adventures (the bi-monthly mag that Four Wheel Parts puts out), they're all on transparencies and take a little while to get developed. I'll post some as soon as I get them back.

After we split up I talked to John Stewart, the event chairman and got some stats. This was the 40th TDS Safari and one of the trail bosses was trail boss way back at the first one. A little over 1200 trucks were registered for the event and probably another 500 were there without being officially part of the event.

I think we saw just about everything that was build for or could be adapted to offroad travel over the last 40-50 years.

Brian, you need to stop making fun of your wife. :D
She's a delightful lady and so is your daughter.

I had a great time with you guys out there, as usual.

Brian, there was some good stuff out there on Sunday that you missed.

Matt, can't I just worry about my paint a little bit longer. I've only been out 3 times since I painted it. From what Rick says, the Arizona run will take care of some of my paint anyway.

Rick, love the pics, and thanks for putting the one of me getting strapped in there too.:p See you in a couple weeks.

And thanks to Sarah for guiding us on Sunday, great trails! :D

Finally got my pics from the TDS Safari back and some of them scanned.

Here is a view of Truckhaven

Your right Colin, Sarah is a world class trail leader! She just says "I don't know" whenever you ask her which way to go. We had a great time, thanks for making my wife feel welcome, now she wants to go out again soon. Should be time for at least one more trip before it gets too hot. We are free the second weekend in May, if anyone's interested.

I have spring break the first week of april. I'm thinking of going out there. Plus my dad has all the time in the world now, so i think he'll go too taking the yota. I;ll post when i have a better date.

First week in April is probably too soon for me. just brought my truck in today for the coil overs. I would sure like to go back again though.

April is too early for me too. I just bought a new Dell 2 gig pentium 4 computer, a new Volvo S60 for the wife, we are looking at camping trailers, setting aside cash for the install of Paul B's old lift (new tires, maybe gearing and a front locker), and......now my wife wants to go house shopping for a bigger domicile (I guess she decided 2000 sq ft is not enough for the three of us). In other words, I am pinching pennies right now.

In May the first weekend is shot because I am involved in the California Peace Officer's Memorial in Sacramento..we are honoring a close friend who was killed by a drunk driver last year.

I do have the first two weeks of May off, how about a day trip for the locals? Meet up at say 800am, spend the entire day wheelin, then back home. Maybe do Coyote Canyon if its still open? That makes for a good day trip.

Brian, do you mean Los Coyotes?

No, I meant Coyote Canyon...the original route over the mountain to San Diego. It starts in the State Park and ends up in Anza.

Brian Is that a procomp light bar on the front of you X or did you make that one yourself.

Thanks
Ryan

My light bar started out as a RangerXcessories chrome 2 tab light bar. The tabs were too thin and made the lights shudder. Now it has 4 1/4" thick tabs on it and a bar that runs back to the radiator support (with a breakable pin so it doesn't punch a hole in the radiator if it gets hit in a parking lot) all thanks to my Brother-in-law.

Is Coyote Canyon reopened? I did the trail once before it was closed about six years ago.
