Titanvs F150

When the F-150s went to the new body style they were still making the old body style F-250s. And they were making the new F-250 Super Duties and the light duty F-250 style at the same time.

i know..
they made the LD 250s for the last year in 99' thats the same year the SDs came out. but the LD 250s where to make up the for lack of the 250 from late 97-98. the LD 250 name was droped in 99' and then called the f-150 7700 series(for its GVWR) ;) :)

We ran the Titan on the dyno at http://proautotech.com/ro Auto Tech ( http://proautotech.com/ ) in Ft Myers today.

The baseline, completely stock turned 240 RWHP and the run with the stock air box disconnected did 250 RWHP; talk about restriction.

Dyno charts will be posted tomorrow.

look it up. just because your state says that anything that can tow overXXX is a 3/4 that does not mean it is. f-150s are 1/2 tons.
not trying to stoop to your level by arguing with someone that just BOUGHT his truck...
but if he says his bed weight capacity is 1450lbs then it is a 3/4 ton truck.
that is how it is rated, not by the towing capacity.
i'm certain that jdraper has the documentation to prove it as well.
if you want to argue with people, you should get another user name and start another thread.

anyways, al, what mods ya have planned for the titanic? does it already have an electric fan from the factory? i see some amsoil and extra filtration in its future. i'm guessing its 2wd (since your son also has a jeep), so what kinda mileage yall getting so far?

First of all the Titan my son bought is a 4 x 4.

We plan some modes right away. They will include: full switch to Amsoil synthetics, K & N intake, custom dually exhaust, electric fan conversing. Not sure what else as time goes on.

On the trip to the dyno, about 70 miles, we got 14.2 MPG and on the return, we got 13.89 MPG. Remember, this was with my son driving, and driving very fast and hard.

Al, ya might want to wait 3k miles or so before you go to full synthetics. Most (not all) vehicles are supposed to be broken in on conventional or semi-conventional oils so that everything seats properly in the motor (rings, bearings, etc). Since synthetics are very good at reducing wear, they slow that process down.

I'll be switching to synthetics at about 3k on my truck. I'll have to get mine on the dyno sometime to see what it does. My air intake is pretty restrictive too, so I wouldn't be surprised to see some good increases by opening it up.

Here's a picture of the F-150 intake.

Jeff, thanks for the advise. There are several schools of thought on when to switch. I have used synthetic from the get go on several car, truck and boat motors that I have built with no ill effects. The Vette and Viper as well as others come from the factory with synthetic.

We are going to do the switch at a compromise mileage of 1k.

The oil will be Amsoil 0w30 Series 2000.

JDraper, damn that intake looks weird. When you gonna put a nice shiny one on?

Jeff, what are the "chambers" on the front of the intake tube?

Maybe it's my secret nitrous chamber :D

Got me...I think it's a noise baffle. My Mach had a baffle on it to limit the resonanat noise from the tube, but it disappeared when I put the C&L on.

Here are the dyno sheets .........

Airbox open
Max RWHP = 249.04 second pull 250.71
Max torque - 310.73 304.71

aldive, those are some alrite numbers for stock, and your son made a great choice about going with the titian, if i was to sell my explorer i would get the nissian frontier, but that titan looks really really nice

Man, was I disappointed with the Ford. I have been a Ford owner for years and have purchased many new Fords over he years.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks ........

My neighbor had his '01 F250 towed home today on the back of a tow truck. If that should tell you anything, go for the Titan. Better yet, get the Dodge Power Wagon!!

Personally, I'd get the F-150 because the Titan just looks odd to me and not nearly as classy as the Ford. From what I've seen of each, the Ford has by far the nicest interior of them all too, though the gas mileage/power of the engine leaves much to be desired when compared to the Nissan and Dodge V8's. That's just my opinion though, and Nissan did a helluva job with their first full-size truck. It'll sell decently, but Ford/Chevy/Dodge have nothing much to worry about until Nissan/Toyota start offering a variety of body styles/cab configurations/etc. Until then, Ford will continue to dominated. They have already reached 900,000 F-series trucks sold for the 2nd year in a row, something never done before. I'd say Ford got it right with the new F-150.

Aldive, I'll be impressed when you get 33 mpg with the Titan. ;)

LMAO whatever..the f-150 IS a 1/2ton..an im done. if thats what you want to think then fine :)

http://trucks.about.com/cs/usedadvice/a/load_capacity.htm

If the load capacity is 1450lbs it is most definately a 3/4 ton truck. Thats what 3/4 ton truck means, it can carry 3/4 of a ton. 3/4 of a ton is 1500 lbs. A half ton truck has a payload capacity of 1000 pounds...or 1/2 a ton.

Today's kids...they think they know everything.... :p .

Jeff, its easy to tell the weight capacity - just put a couple of fat chicks and a bushel of corn to feed em in the bed, and see if it bottoms out :)

I think we can all agree that its actual load capacity is 3/4 ton, but I beleive the F-150 is still marketed as a 1/2 ton, as are the Dodge 1500 and Chevy 1500 series.
