I was out in Octillio today (about 35 miles south and slightly west of Truckhaven) and the weather was perfect. Warm, cloudless sky, w/light breeze. We are testing the radio reception and I get to drive all around the county in a patrol car with a radio technician. Some days are much harder to take than others. I will be out in Borrego tommorow (Wednesday) for a few hours, then back home. Looking at the extended weather forcast, it should be the same over the weekend (mid 70's to low 40's at night, some clouds).
I will be happy to lead on a stocker run or two since I have to take it easy anyway. I will try to cause less damage to everyone's rig than I did last year. But, remember, when I say "you might want to go around this hill", or "there is always an alternate route"......its only that I don't want to discourage a person new to our group by risking damaging their rig on the first trip.
1995 and newer Explorer's have the exhaust routed straight out the rear and angling downward, which can cause a problem when backing when the bumper is in the dirt. When backing up, the exhaust tip bends 180 degrees and punches a hole in the right-rear tire. We found that out last year, the hard way.
I WILL BE OUT THURSDAY NIGHT OR FRIDAY MORNING!!
Am bringing some cookies, or some other kind of desert.
