Trying to get it right-

What are you setting the preload at? I recall doing my last 302 Lincoln engine at a 0.030 level. I wonder how those Rhoads lifters are adjusted, to adjust for a desired lift change? I'd like to pull 5-10 degrees out of this used cam I'm going to use.

What rockers do you have? I know that I've got a set or two of 1.6 aluminum rockers, and one set of 1.72 rockers. I'll use one of these for my little 302, and steel rockers for the good engine. Have fun there, take your time.

Don, you are correct-a good rule of thumb is at least .020-less than .040.
I'm shooting for .025-.030"

Yes I got that from two different cam manufacturers around 1997. What rockers do you have? Are they a general type which are taller than the odd 95 Cobra kind. Ford made some lower profile type rockers back then to fit under regular valve covers. I know mine aren't like that, so I'll have to buy valve covers if I use these. My friend has a used 95 Cobra engine, I might try to keep my stock valve covers for now by trading him rockers.

I haven't really been thrilled by smallblock valve covers. I'm putting off that decision if I can. Night,

Now I am debating the color choice for my intake manifold-
it is the centerpiece, and the first thing that catches the eye--
I was set on Black chrome-the valve covers are black over chrome finish--

And personally I would like to see something with some metalic as your diamond..I mean centerpiece

Since I have an "Edelbrock " style intake, and Edelbrock heads--
These I powdercoated with "transparent black"

The "black chrome" looks like this. This is what I was going to do my manifold, elbow , throttle body and air tube with.
It changes shade dramatically with different lighting

Okay I see what you mean with the black chrome. Are you gonna paint the heads or live the As-is? Not everyone needs to know your have some Alnumium heads <-- haha

I would get something black with metalic because those V/Cs look shinny

hmmm Ok I can see it know... So you have the spectrum of metalic/chrome through the engine bay.... Well id paint the fenderwells/firewall dark silver/light silver.. maybe some black plug wires etc... That would pop..

ok I would go with a shinny intake like i said...., black chrome intake tubing, black wires everywhere.., silver/gray looming over all the wires and cables. black engine bay or metalic gray. Paint the engine block black that way those TM headers will pop, and give light to the edel.. heads.

Take your time Jon, it's a lot of work to change colors. Thanks for setting an example, I'm pondering on the same colors. I'll see what the mirror chrome looks like on my intake, the valve covers need to be a chrome or dark chrome shade, near black but not quite. I like the idea of a body red colored block, and maybe black heads.

I think that is dust--
That is transparent black-over a used set of chrome valve covers so no they aren't perfect

Well,
second baking on the intake and it still smells like burning oil--

The throttle body held up well through the sandblasting-

I don't see a way to get the bearings out-so-it is getting painted.

These Edelbrock valve covers might not be very desirable , but I'll tell you this. They are at least 1/2" taller then the cobra valve cover I had on, and they are the regular height "signature" series--just a thought for those looking for a cheap alternative for clearance issues
I also have a set of fel pro "corklam" gaskets-they are .313" (5/16") thick
Also-since I have an edelbrock style intake and heads-I thought it fitting to get the thicker Edelbrock brand intake gasket set. They say it helps seal better--we'll see.
