Awesome!
There was a small group of us from here that went earlier this year, but nothing planned right now as far as I know.
Moab 2007 is the next big run.

Lets see your truck!

yea i was planning on making the trip up there but i will have my last day of finals during it....im super bummed but theres always next year i guess.......i would like to make a lil trip , how would i go about setting something up cause i would like to meet a few other wheelers here and what not....thanks alot

Thats a nice looking Gen I :)

We will have to put something together after the Holidays and after the snow melts, at least a little bit! hahaha

yea definetly, i cant wait to get it out there and see wat it can do...plus i wanna get a closer look at your rig, it looks real nice

Nice rig! I had tried a set-up for a run this last year, but I ended up falling off the board for a while to finish school.

As I'm sure you know there are TONS of trails here in CO. So whatever area you want to single out.... just post it (or hold a poll) then we can talk about dates and specific trails. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what develops. I'm doing Moab 07, and would be interested in another local run.

nice rig you should also get the bookGuide to Colorado Backroads & 4 Wheel Drive Trails by Charles Wells. Good reading and it helps us that don't live in colorado

well im thinkin any trail that everyone will be able to run would be a good one, like i would like to head to carnage or something, but not in all this snow it might be hell, what are some good trails you ran that you liked???

in this snow it is not accessable, even if I have 39's on my BII nothing (unless it has tracks) is getting through 3+' of snow

yea i agree with you fortune, and thanks avaiator, i took a look and im defintly gonna want to set up a run to carnage when it becomes possible, and i got to lookin on the website and theres a place called wheelers lake, any one heard of it? that looked pretty fun and also a place called raw deal, for some reason i remember seeing or hearing about raw deal and i didnt think it was in colorado but i dont know? tel me what yall think and when you guys think carnage will be runable .!!!

I'm not sure about Raw Deal, but Wheeler Lake is in Wells' CO book Vol I... I haven't run it but it's near Ptarmigan and McCallister Gulch which a few of us ran 2 years ago.... nice area.

If you're interested in wheelin' near Salida/Buena Vista the guys on www.rmftc.com (a good CO. Ford wheeling site) run Chinaman's gulch each year and that is a fun trail.... probably too chalenging for my rig but it was doable with lots of areas to play on optional obstacles. Most of the guys that did it when I did were on at least 35's and locked... so your rig would work well. Give it a look!

You could run Wheeler's Lake no problem. A large group of us did it during one of our Explorerforum's CCR (Colorado Colors Run) runs about five years ago.

It's a good trail with one obstacle at the very top of the trail that offers a challenge, but nothing an Explorer on locked 35's can't walk up. However a stocker - or probably any vehicle without a locker - won't make it up that obstacle. At any rate, that obstacle is within walking distance of Wheeler Lake at the top, so lesser vehicles can still run the trail. Wheeler Lake does include a couple of very long uphill sections on loose talus rocks that will give stock 4x4s without lockers a problem. It's a fun trail - scenic, a bit of a challenge, but nothing extreme [except for possibly that last obstacle].

:)

Currently they are all covered in a bunch of un forgiving snow

Carnage I hear may be closed very soon
I think I did Wheeler lake in 06, I would have to look in the book.
Salida area is awesome, I definatley will be back up there in 07

For the trails you guys are talking about I hope you have at least a rear locker and the trucks are in good shape and ready to work, carnage canyon, Chinamans gultch, raw deal = 35+, sliders, skid plates, lockers and winch, from what I hear :)

In addition to the mention of lockers (which it appears you have :) ), I would definately second the notion that sliders and serious undercarriage armor are a must. I have a much longer wheelbase than other Ex and I can say that sliders were the single-most biggest helper along the way. I got extensive spotting on the aforementioned Chinaman's Gulch run as did some of the other Ex 4 doors on 35's with much trimming and minimal lift (Jason? ;) ). Make sure you post to this thread or the CO Contingent one when you get a fix on where you want to head so we can plan.

Gerald; how's the Tranny?

Tranny's rocksolid now. Got it rebuilt with heavyduty innards and it's better than new
