I wanted to know if the Ford dealer will take care of the water leaking from the faulty welds on my 2012 explorer? Has anyone had this issue? What has been done? My car is starting to smell like mildew.View attachment 165528 View attachment 165529 View attachment 165530 View attachment 165531

I can see the cracks where the welds are.How do you know that faulty welds are the issue?
Thanks Peter. No water in the footwell yet.or grab handle. Just the 3rd row and pretty much all of rear.It could possibly be an issue with a moonroof drain tube although that usually results in water pooling in the footwell. There is a post here where a member had water leaking from the passenger 'grab handle'. Water Leak I have asked the member to provide an update if he has one.

Hello everyone, new to the site here but I recently purchased a 2014 Explorer Sport for my wife. I noticed a musty smell in the car and I located water in my spare tire area. The right side of the carpet surrounding the spare tire area up to the back of the 3 row seat carpet is wet as well. I have been researching that people are fighting leak problems with Explorers, but has anyone found a fix yet? Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks im advance!
YAAAYYY My 2016 Ex also had the water leak in the trunk, both sides!!!
But you know what??? I sold this piece of crap.
In two years I went to the dealer like 20 times. I repeat, piece of CRAP!
Way tooooo many issues with the EX.
Rusted Hood, A-Pillar Rattle noise, Memory seats issues, Exterior driver mirror folding issues, Battery connector broken, Side racks popping out,... and finally....Roof weld broken and huge amount of water leak on both sides in the trunk!!!!!

Hi juliehopson63. Thanks for the heads up. The dealer did not want to warranty the water leak. I had purchased the extended warranty and I still had a month left of coverage. The smell of wet rubber and funky carpet smell would not go away. I did notice the hood bubbling but didn't think about it because it was minor at the time. But I did notice the issue with the wiper coming off so easy and brought it to the attention of the dealer and they said it was fine. After all this I just decided to trade the dam thing in. 111k miles in and I was just done with it. Now it's the dealers problem.Hi Lenny - My 2012 Explorer was leaking from rusted bolts on the roof rack. Water presented from right rear seatbelt assembly. It took them a while to determine that - they had to put my vehicle in a rain room before they finally got the correct source of the leak. My dealership and/or Ford Corporate paid for the repair and 3 days rental. Vehicle was at 62,000 miles and it was 3 years and 1 month after I bought it. I didn't have an extended warranty. The bubbling paint on the lip of the hood they only paid 60% of the hood replacement. Recently my plastic trim on left side of windshield went flying off down the road which is another problem that lots of folks report with these vehicles. Make sure you check for bubbled paint around the edge of your hood - galvanic corrosion.
All the issues that your mentioning starting happening to my explorer too. I just got rid rid of that POS too. The dealers were no help even with the extended warranty. Ford let me down.YAAAYYY My 2016 Ex also had the water leak in the trunk, both sides!!!

I tried to fix it myself. But didn't have it long enough to see if it actually held up. My kids clothes were starting to smell like the explorer so that was enough for me. Unfortunately the explorer forum is gonna be the end of the road for me but I'm a Ford dude and I still own my 2003 F250 fx4 with 88k original miles so I'll be around. So i take it you will be leaving the forum then since you sold that piece of crap?
Did you get the water leak fixed?
If you check the Ford ESP under Generally Covered by Your Auto Insurance you will find that it does not cover water leaks.Hi juliehopson63. Thanks for the heads up. The dealer did not want to warranty the water leak. I had purchased the extended warranty and I still had a month left of coverage.
I don't own the vehicle anymore. It had too many issues with it. It was a nice looking ride but wasn't reliable to keep.If you check the Ford ESP under Generally Covered by Your Auto Insurance you will find that it does not cover water leaks.

Lol...yeah they all would have no problems if they just sat in the driveway and didn't get used. I drive mine and I can't believe the amount of issues they have.... And mine only has 60k on it....
"Excellent"?...... hardley.....plus trans fluid from ford that breaks down, PTU fluid that needs to be changed every 30k, water leak in the rear, etc etc...... Don't think I'd use the word "excellent" to describe it....Door separation issue, rear toe link recall, air bag light, "exhaust leak"(no evidence before or after).
