Changed the plugs and wires with what? Sometimes Motorcraft brand plugs are needed, sometimes aftermarket plugs can affect anything from idle to missing and hesitation issues. Low-quality spark plug wires (like the $9.99 autozone specials) can cause ignition problems too, even with Motorcraft plugs. Also, be sure the plugs are gapped correctly. A much smaller or much larger gap than spec'd can cause ignition issues, as well as a different gap between the plugs in each cylinder.
Missing can be a lot of other things, possibly the coil, or even a fuel issue, such as clogged/dirty fuel injectors, or even just rust/sediment in the tank that's slightly blocking the fuel pump from sucking up all the fuel it needs to deliver.
You might want to start with a few more simple causes that have cheap fixes, like the air filter (is it dirty?), the MAS (mass airflow sensor) which can be cleaned with some carburetor or intake cleaner, and even just checking the throttle cable and throttle body assembly for smooth operation.
