I think that will get the job done there Winter;) How much is that plexy though?

Steve, the cost of the plexyglass was $260.00 a glass. That included the glass and the ACP hardcoating. The ACP helps keep the glass from scratching so much with age.

That's not bad:thumbsup: I think I'm cheap though and would just try some from the hardware store:rolleyes:

It is pricey but much sweeter. I like the idea of a weld on sleeve since many have had the rockstomper spindle break where they weld it. Please give us plenty of details on how it works and how it is attached paul! That bumper is super cool

The assembly is from polyperformance priced around $75.00. Super beefy and the spindle diameter is 1 3/4". I don't think I can use this set-up for the tire carrier because of space constrants. 40 inch spare weighs in around 120 lbs; damn......

I got your ropes and pulleys right here! :D

So are new axles for the 9 coming to match the bolt pattern or are you getting adapters? that hinge is fricken' BEEF! Where is it from?

I had the axle cross-drilled when I ordered them, if I remember right it was only $30 at the time....Thinking ahead.......

Hmmm, maybe it's time I chime back in again. First....awesome progress.

I'm looking to build a rear tire carrier that secures to my cage through the back door.

Looking at how desert trucks go fast and secure a spare tire down vs. how a rockcrawler goes slow and has a swing out tire carrier I can tell you that I had pretty good luck with my old tire carrier being the the hinge came from a jib crane but I eventually tore the 3/16" steel bumper and had to reinforce it.

I am working on a design that will mount the tire carrier in 4 positions(2 on the bumper with leaf bushings, 2 through the back door) similar to a poison spyder but I think their stinger idea is kinda cheesy and I don't know of any explorers that have rolled over backwards anyway.

I like how you have the tire carrier mounted high, I've seen plenty of big dogs dig their spares into the ground on steep climbs including my old 35 on the bumper. Just mount one more video camera in the middle of the tire for your rear view mirror.

^ thats kinda my Idea...I'm done with single pivot spare tire mounts. Our tires just weight to much.:(

*Sniff* *Sniff* It's..just..so........beautifull.
This project is awesome!!! Deff. subscribing to see what else happens.

I think you need to breath into a paper bag or something.:p::D

Haha yeah prolly

I am planning on a swing-out tire carrier that flips down from the bottom too make it easier to remove. I have to use dual pivots and the fold down will look like a rear skid-plate continuing the angle from the bumper :confused:not a stinger. I want to make a lift-gate cage mount but if someone hits the back they will smash the gate and I have to much work into it. Still designing the pivots for the weight factor holly crap....

Brian your funny......

Really appreciate the craftsmanship in your work.
I hope you keep building and posting all your work in the future.
I would assume the aircraft Plexiglas is substantially lighter then the stock glass size for size?

Wow... I saw the first page when it first happened but then I lost track of everything in the Explorer world for awhile.. I've gotta say, I wish I could meet Winter. Your fab skills and creativity are amazing. I might steal that rear end design and redesign my front to match.. Thats beautiful!

:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy:crazy::cool::cool::cool::cool:
As Winter basks in the adoration of his fans.............We truly, are not worthy.
You know, if you finished this thing, we could actually see it in action....................maybe over the MLK weekend??? No Pressure.;):p:

Thanks guys, I plan on finishing and have never built anything like it. It has challenged me every step of the way and that is what I love about the project. I truly hope that my hard work will provoke new ideas and encourage more wild builds.

Oh its encouraged something. I'll be bringing my Ex into the shop for a 13 day fab-fest over my winter break... See what comes from that lol. I need a cot so I can sleep there!

Hey..I'm up for wild builds:thumbsup: I just need the wild cash to back it up:p:

Start up of the rear tire carrier mount. Winter decided to go back to the single pivot mount. I will let him tell you the reason for that. Anyway, here are the beginning picture's so far.
