51st Desert Safari (aka TDS) March 1-3

Who's in? I missed the last EF run and KOH but plan on going to this. Always a good time out there seeing so many different rigs. Like every year it's the first weekend in March from Friday to Sunday. Any and all info is on their website:

..Even if you are not going this year it looks like there may now be a "Park" fee..

** $5 of the registration this year is the new fee to the OHV park, this is a new this year and is out of our control. To help offset this cost of this fee we have lowered the prices of merchandise **

..I am not sure if that is just for the event or something new since this is turning more into a recreational park..

If State Parks is trying to charge fees for regular use of the park, they tried that for a few years about ten years ago. They got sued, and lost. If they are not providing any services (electricity, water, extra law enforcement/staff, etc), they can't charge any fees.
It would not suprise me if they are trying again. Maybe its just for "Special Events".

..That looks like a pretty lite crowd for TDS...

Yeah, it seemed a bit lite there as well as the notches. The training area was pretty crowded though. Some guy in a pretty much stock YJ made a few runs at the big tower and came real close once but grenaded an axle.

Didn't see Chief or Fat Cat...I thought Chief lives in Texas now

The base looked pretty beat up, I guess some people have a destructive streak in them

Pulled these pics from Pirate...story is the guy backed up the tower for a photo op and went too high and fell forward. From the posts it sounds like he walked away ok from it...scary stuff

Someone did take it out of the ground and threw it down the hill. They just recently got it back up there. I saw a video of the recovery on youtube a couple of weeks ago.
