4.7L vs 5.0L

I didn't notice much of a loss in acceleration at all, keep in mind I have the 5.0L where as you have the 4.0L.. pretty big difference in torque between the two.

As for going back to 235's, hell no..
1. No.
2. My old tires were toast, the two rear wouldn't keep air in them.. one of them had a plug... all 4 were almost bald.
3. No. I love my 31" BFG's... =D
4. No.

IMO, the 235's are wayy too small.. it's ridiculous.. looks like someone put a bunch of spare tires on it from a car...
These 31's are Perfect, gives it more of a truck like look/feel.

Doesn't matter what it's in. AWD eats power, Just like 4wd.

The AWD is what makes the 245hp 302 into a 190hp truck. The heavier tires cut a few tenths off a 1/4 mile time. Weigh one wheel and tire, and see if it is near the stock 53 pound weight. My 18's used to total 72.5 pounds, different tires have cut that to about 67 pounds. My wheels/tires are too heavy. Regards,

Wait, so what are the 2WD 5.0L Explorers rated at as far as HP is concerned?

They would be rated the same, they pull the HP numbers off of a dyno.

If they're the same, I'm confused about this whole 2WD/AWD Performance difference....

And there has to be something I have that gives me a gain over her, even if it's not a complete gain... something that's better than on hers.

Weight, I have a slight advantage.
Open exhaust and intake.

Would a tuner give me the ultimate advantage?

The motors rated horsepower is at the crank, not at the wheels. And since there are a lot more parts to turn on the awd model you lose more power before it gets to the wheels. A tuner will help, but if your really want to beat her get some headers, the stock manifolds are your biggest bottleneck.

Yea Yea, I know.. lets not turn this into a TMH thread.....
Those are something that'll go in this summer hopefully.

...

me and my fiance test drove a 5.0L AWD Mounty then right after that a 4.7L durango.
The mounty scooted off the line WAY better and was a little nicer around the curves, but the durango was deff hauling ass in 2WD mode.

IMHO, it will be close, but if you get a good launch in your powerband you should win, not by much though. The durango will probably spin off the line if she mashes the gas so if u launch good and she slips even a little you'll win.

My goal when i get my X is to be stock and beat a stock 06 grand prix except the grand prix will have a short ram intake and i'll be running the MAC CAI.

We'll see what happens, thanks for the feedback though.. I'll probably make a video.

Crisco her tires............

Nah, I'll just pour a lil motor oil down before her rears.. lol
