Looking for better performance offroad and i was wondering what you guys think i should do, only part about the 302 swap i dont like is rewiring everything.
You'll probably get votes for both, but my next engine is going to be the 302. You get the better transmission than the already weak A4LD that way too.
With patience, you'll rewire that 302 in there and be a lot more happy with it. Better transmissions available, and a lot more potential for further power gains, more reliable, basically the same fuel economy as the V6, but like they say, there's no replacement for displacement.
Put in a 400 or a 427, Tight fit but you'll have the fastest Explorer ever. Not to mention you could loose all the emissions crap and just run a carb and straight pipes.

Uh....nah i think KBX would still have me but that would be cool but in IL emissions for 95 and older vehicles is done with so i can run straight pipes regardless.
I have a 5.0 half clip sitting in my storage building waiting to go in my '93. Once my tranny goes out i'll do the whole swap i guess. The only problem is my '93 has almost 300,000 on it's motor and tranny and not a single problem so it may take a while.
Is there a tech article on this somewhere. I'm thinking of grabbing a 91 4.0 4X4 that needs work, but the price is cheap. I'm a Mustang guy and I've got a 91 5.0 with GT40 heads on the stand right now.

I copy and pasted this from my post I made in another thread. You have allot of options available to you if you are up to a little custom work. Good luck.
