...no prob, i forgot you had the project's coming up...;)

I would offer to measure my tube and bends but I've got a feeling that it's going to have a few more bends than would be feasible in a weekend.

...and I'll be jealous when all the bends are done and I'm still sitting here without a truck.

If it's a weekend in April I might be in San Diego and would think about swinging up, March is packed for me.

Excuse my ignorance, but how long does it take to order x-number of feet of tubing? And what else is need besides tubing, a date, and a place to do it? I just would hate to miss out on this if it's done in June. Is a month and a week not enough time to plan?

...i guess we all need to come up with cash first...the kindness of someone letting all these trucks in there yard, the guys with the knowledge and big tools to say they could help, and...
...lol, i thought it was moving rather quickly...and a few people have plans for march...:D

Off the top of my head.. you need ... a bender

:p:

the tube is the easiest part, You call and order it, and they drop it off the next morning:rolleyes: No biggie.

We used 1 3/4" for the main B & C hoops. and 1 1/2" for everything else. You also need a 1 1/4" for sleaving;) Then you need floor plates. I found it easier to bolt in the cage, but I think everyone else welded it in.

All interior needs to be out...carpet, all seats but driver and all lower plastic. We also remover all plastic in cargo area. Headliner can stay in.

Everyone must have the same design, or the mass production will not work.

My original moc up:

Interiors must be out cause even though they are the same truck each one ended up a bit different. Someone has to come up with a bender to use. Also pull the front door panels. We were able to sneak the A pillar down between the door and dash. If no one has done a bunch of bending then I would say it will take longer then we did. Also the trucks must be similar to make it go easy for the weekend.

Ted you can take me off the list. I have a cage from last time I still need to weld in though.

I have to talk to Tracy but we could maybe do it at our place in Ramona. It couldn't be till May or June though. We can do 4 trucks in the front yard and if others want to stop by I have plenty of parking in the back.

90ranjo might want to be in on this as well.

...rockranger, thanks for the headsup and the offer.......i will swap your name with 90ranajo until he chimes in...;)

...stic-o, that mock up is priceless...:D

Here is some pics of mine, so you can see the basic design. My dash bar is different then everyone else's though:rolleyes: Jefe and Bkennedy's followed the dash on top, I did mine just straight.

I also built in mounts for my Hi-Lift ;)

...did you bolt and transfer underneath to the frame at the same time or did you do that after you got her welded up???

it's just bolted to the body, with the body sandwiched in between the two plates. we saw no reason to attach it to the frame, because the tube is HREW and not DOM. This cage is only good for about 1 or two light rolls or one good one. after that the cab would be so destroyed you'd want to swap it out, or cut the top anyway:rolleyes:

I might have a bender/welder by then. Im looking at building my own cage just to cut costs down on building the explorer. But if i build one i want at least mild steel, DOM would be nice but not cheap for sure..

...thanks stic-o for the link...i really like page 10 when it was being discussed hrew or dom and your thoughts ...:p:

sorry a little off topic, but anybody think my mountaineer can haul a chopped top b2 on a car hauler safely??

stil trying to figure out how to get that thing down there. Hmm....

...i'm in doubts about your modified mounty hauling that BII on a trailer down the freeway into l.a.....

...stic-o, were you guys allowing for putting all the plastic trim back in, including the rear panels????

From the pic of Steves I would think so especailly in the back with the tubes coming straight down looks like there plenty of room to slip the panels back in

During the welding prosess, for mine there was a slight incident, that involved us running around like are heads were cut off, looking for a Fire Extinguisher:rolleyes:
