Charlie's 2000 XLT Registry

Well, the other day I finally picked up a new vehicle. It's a nice 2000 XLT. Overall, it's in good shape and I'm happy with it. Here's the only picture I have of it for now, taken the day I first looked at it-

Now, on to the details.

The Good:
-4.0 SOHC - engine only has 40k on it, and is from an '01 ST. When the timing chain broke on the original, the original owner just swapped in an engine from a junkyard ST with rearend damage. Engine runs perfect.
-Only 107k miles
-Interior in great shape overall
-Loaded, leather, sunroof, 6cd changer, rear air, air shocks, ect
-Runs great
-4.10 diff's

The bad:
-Front passenger wheel bearing needs to be replaced
-Rust on step tubes
-Some minor scratches/dings on paint
-ABS light on (from bad bearing)
-A/C still needs to be recharged (Never taken care of after engine change)
-Rear view mirror on glass shakes like none other. I need to fix, or replace this. Verrryyy unacceptable how it is:thumbdwn:. But luckily, no big deal to take care of:thumbsup:

I think it was a great deal, since I got it for $2,700. After taking care of the major problems it has (wheel bearing, A/C charging) it will be around 3k. Given it bluebooks at more than that everywhere (KBB, Edmunds, NADA) I'm happy.

First "mod" done: Recovering the center console lid. As you know, the leather/vinyl covers crack like none other over time, and this was really bothering me..so it was done within 3 hours of me bringing the car home:p: Here's what the old cover looked like...

After being recovered-it's a little lighter, but this picture makes it seem even more than it is, since the sunroof is open

Now, just a few other shots I took today-

What did you do with your white one?

What did you do with your white one?

It's resting peacefully on life support, until it goes to the morgue:p:

After it's harvested for organs, though...

nice xlt u got there charlie

nice charlie like that leather in there

Got yourself a good deal there.

Thanks, except I'm not a big fan of the leather...ice cold in the winter, and in the summer it will be hot. I was out for a little while today, and had "swamp back" when I stepped out.

I am a little confused with the air suspension, I thought it was supposed to lift up the vehicle in 4wd/4wd low, but it doesn't. I have heard the compressor run though one time when I parked it. I'll have to look at that more this weekend, along with some other projects.

This weekend, I'll be taking the orange reflectors out of the corner lamps, and also switching the relatively new rotors/pads from my 96, because the ones on the 2000 are warped. Since I have a better set...no reason not to change them:thumbsup: I also need to investigate the rear wiper, as it doesn't run. I'm assuming (err, hoping) it is relay, since once again, there is a perfectly good one in the 96. Then I'm also planning on pulling off the step tubes, sanding and repainting those since they have surface rust, and lets face it, it looks bad.

Update time:

Clear corner lamps installed, 31's moved over:

As you can see, I still need to sand down the step tubes. Once I get that done, I'll be one happy camper.

Will there be any metal left after you sand them down?

I Knew you'd get another explorer--
Looks like a good one. Congrats:thumbsup:

lookin good!

How did I miss this? Good find. Where the heck have you been man? How are ya?

Nice ride, Charlie. What happened to the old rig??

Nice lookin "new" explorer Charlie, glad to see ya stayed in the "family" :D lol

Doin' pretty good, thanks for asking!

Old one is being harvested for organs and going to the boneyard. Unfortunately, nobody wants to pay anything for a 96 2 door explorer with 181k miles and a bad transmission.

Update time...

Not too much visually has been done, but synthetic diffy fluids have been added, along with aftermarket stereo, and a few other things. I'm curious to see how the synthetic diffy fluid will act this winter.

Just got done tinting front windows tonight, not the best pictures, but it looks good in person. It's a pretty close match to the stock in the rear, but slightly lighter.

Once again... your truck looks like a police vehicle... lol

Tint looks good. Are you going to go with the whole black out look and tint the tail lights too?

Well...doesn't anything with black wheels and a cb antenna kinda look that way? Well....maybe not a prius..haha.

I may (and probably will) tint the taillights, but it would be a light tint, more of a shading, I suppose you could call it.
