I've been to 13 shops and not a single one will touch doing duals on my 00' 5.0 Mountaineer. I already have the muffler dual in/out. Only one place said they'd do it but I'd have to remove the spare and only run 2 1/4" piping which is BS. Really pissing me off. On my 4.6 Mountaineer I had a real true dual system installed no problem at a place that worked on our past Porsches, except the new owners of the place won't allow anything in but Porsches or other sports cars now.

I even showed detailed pictures from multiple members on here and the only replies back were "well they are f####n idiots, the brake and fuel lines will catch on fire etc etc".

Does anybody know of a shop in South Florida that will do it, geez. I see everybody on here that has no problem going to a shop to run duals out even with a spare, and here I am after 13 shops with no luck. I live in Boca Raton.

Have you tried calling a speed shop like Automotive Engineering for recommendations?

I went to a small idependent exaust shop, Tim's muffler in Chanute Kansas
Their sign, and billboards say "NO MUFF TOO TUFF" lol
Anyway, I have had several systems installed by them, This one they didn't like, but they did it. Took them about 3 1/2 hours, but they know me, and like me, small towns have their advantages.
Try driving out to the boonies and find someone hungry, they'll do a bang up job!!!

I personally would not turn you away, I mean you are a customer with $$$ and obviously it can be done........maybe try getting them to sell yo0u the muffler, most shops dont like to install customers parts, that may be part of the dilema

just buy new fuel and brake lines for about 30 bucks and reroute them closer to the frame

Looks like I found a shop that will do it, he said he's done a bunch of 5.0 Explorers and kept the spare for duals. My muffler is custom ordered from CGS, I wouldn't bother with any Flowmasters or other mufflers at shops etc. Had them before, don't care for the sound lol. My 4.6 with true duals had two CGS mufflers and it blew away the sound of a buddies similar truck with Flows. Have another buddy with a lifted Titan who took his Flows off for a CGS setup, Nissan's Endurance V8 sounds f'n awsome.

The shops I went to were Mom and Pop type places. Funny they wouldn't, but the place who did work on our past Porsches and only worked on P-cars mainly had no problem doing a custom setup on my other Mountaineer which was even tighter with the IRS. Except the new owners/company policy whatever won't allow anything in now except P-cars or other sports cars.

I could drive out to the boonies, but Boca is like the 90210 of south FL lol. I'd have to go way out near Orlando for boonies :D . Shop I found is up in Delray Beach and was highly recommended.

I was just suprised, even after showing pics of yours jtsmith and others, including the layout I had on the 4.6 Mountaineer which was even more complicated. Told one guy he obviously didn't know how to manipulate piping and I'll pay and use the bender and do the work myself, he didn't like that very much lol :p

jtsmith - got your pm, LOL

That's tellin them!

I really want to hear that muff, I have the flowmaster woes. I want deep muffled idle, with quiet growl. I'm seriously considering both on same side, or 1 large tailpipe, since eventually (Yeah right) I'm gonna fit a sts turbo.
My future system will be mostly hidden tip(s), no chrome, behind bumper with turndown.

What is a "CGS" muffler? Sorry for my ignorance.

www.CGSmotorsports.com , their big over on the West Coast of the US. Put it this way, back at college, I had a guy in an 6.0 Escalade take off his Corsa exhaust after hearing my truck and installed a CGS setup. Buddy took Flows off his Titan and installed a CGS setup. And Crabby Jacks here has car shows every Sunday, there's a Chevelle with a 502 running CGS mufflers that sounds f'n sick. But if you call most shops they have no idea who they are lol.

jtsmith - might be what your looking for. My 4.6 Mountaineer had a very deep, agressive sound but w/o that obnoxious tone that Flows and others have if you know what I mean. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like on the 5.0 . I've had Flow 40's, Magnaflows etc.

Wow, thats awesome, ive been looking for a muffler that no one has and i hate flowmasters. When i finally do my exhaust, im going with these for sure!

I called up a place asking about tru duals on my 4.0, i know its probably not a big deal, but the fellow i talked to also encouraged headers, and an xpipe for it lol, i also asked if it wouldnt be a problem if i got the muffler elsewere and that was fine too.

i have true duals on my 4.0L and had the same problem, no one wanted to do it without removing my spare, i finally found this guy at Muffler Man, just a local muffler shop, he bent the pipes around my spare leaving plenty of room for the gas line and the spare, its a beautiful job, dont let anyone tell you otherwise, it can definitely be done!!!!!!

How do these CGS mufflers compare on v6's?

Know of any exhaust clips, btw?

i got mine done at Mienake and they did a great job. All they have to do to modify the truck except for the exhaust is to cut a little notch in the muffler heat shield.

Ford did locate the brake lines right in the area where a left tailpipe should go. There is also a charcoal canister rubber hose or two, plus the diff. vent hose.

It might be wise to relocate those parts before asking for a left tailpipe, any extra room would be good.

Are those CGS mufflers a straight through design? They sound good, a lot like Magnaflow mufflers. Regards,

Here is a cool thread I found that has to do with explorers, mountaineers and cgs mufflers and also an explorer with over 600+hp that runs high 9's in the quarter. Just some intersting literature.
