GW National Forest

The earliest that I would be able to go is probably going to be in early August. I have duty at least one day out of the next two weekends, and then family in town for the last weekend.

When we do go, I want to camp out. Anybody else game?

Lets just do it after all the college kids get back to school (mid to late august), I know HokieBert would wanna come up for it and SteveVB would be able to come down from MD. I would realy love to camp out this time too...

I'd like to go camping, would this be a weekend trip or during the week?I just wanted to see if I needed to schedule time off from work.

It would be weekend. Meet Friday afternoon/night or Saturday morning and wheel all day Saturday and some of Sunday if people can and party/hang out with the group Saturday night...

Hopefully I wont need help:D

Im getting some more aggressive 32-33 or34" tires and some more ground clearance this summer so by the fall I should be in good shape. Plus I have a new ARB sitting at my feet waiting to go in the front :D Just need a bit more time.... toooo much to do.

With that much ground clearance and a locker you will be just fine! I could get two wheels up on the rock, but my tires would just spin in place, no good traction without a locker.

Well, I've been bored at work today so I have been researching more places to wheel in GWNF. I have compiled a list of popular trails and some off the beaten path that can be run this fall when we finally get our trip together.

Old Long Run (if it isn't closed) around to German River
Dictum (and the Rock for those who want)
Kephart
Dry River
Skidmore Fork to Flagpole Knob to Reddish Knob to Hone Quarry (doubt many people have run this one before)

yeh, count me in whenever, ill take a weekend for sure, i am free any weekend the rest of th summer pretty much and then once school starts it wont be too much of a pain to get down i dont think...

Can most of these trails be done by a mostly stock X like mine? and what is the "ROCK" that you guys keep talkin about?

Matt everything except going up the rock on dictum can be done with a stock vehicle-going down dictum stock is fine- getting up is difficult with stock vehicles, not impossible, but ive never made it stock. Ive seen it done though in a stock Grand, im sure a stock ex with a better than good driver and some skill/luck could do it though, it just wasnt me.

The rock is a section of trail thats a good sized ledge 2-2 1/2 feet tall at points.

good luck

id give it a shot with my 32s...but no lockers:(

Alrighty, seeing as how we have a good amount or interest in this wheeling trip, I think we should start setting a weekend to do this. It seems that wheeling lots of trails and camping out under the stars is the preference of most. Here is a list of weekends that I will definitely be able to get out there (not like its that hard for me anyways), but other weekends I will be out of town or otherwise occupied. These are for the fall only...

September 12-13, 20-21, 27-28
October 4-5, 18-19, 25-26
November 8-9, 14-15, 22-23
December 6-7, 13-14

Thats it, let me know of some dates you have availible so we can get this wheeling trip off the ground...

I'm down for some time in September and then again in maybe Nov/Dec time frame.

Brian, you know that I'm down for any trail up there. I'll give just about anything a try at least once.

Signing me up for stuff again Brian? ;) Yeah, I would love to come and I bet I could drag an X or 2 and maybe a jeeper up from Blacksburg with me. And I should have my BL and 32's on by then (I'd better have em on!!!!)

Just found out last night another X on this board is going to be a Hokie! WOO HOOO

Camping is my vote as long as there is beer/whiskey/cigars when the ****'s over with ;)

I'd like to go, I know I'm from the West part of Virginia, hehe, but MapQuest says Harrisburg is only 300 miles from here so if I can talk my brother in to coming we might make it. I might come even if he doesn't want to. I'm up for the 2nd two dates in September or any of the other days. As long as it's not during hunting season :D

Its always hunting season out there, hunting for carpetbaggers that is! Last fall we went in November and ran into a couple groups of hunters just setting off for a long day and night of deer hunting.

We might want to think about two runs. One early fall in September and then one late fall when the leaves are starting to change.

EDIT: Travis, it would prob take you around 4-5 hours to get there. I-64 to I-79 to Rt. 33 would take you right to GWNF and our camping spot. Hope ya can make it!

what kind of difficulty are we going to be seeing? Brian will basically be stock, and I'll be "super stock", and then Gibson has 35's  Will he be bored running with us lightweights?
