Was installing new horn today when I noticed a lot of jagged scrapes grouped together in the paint over my rear wheel. I cursed myself because I thought I had done it.... I then walked around the rear of my explorer to find out that the hatch and both the panels above the rear wheels had been keyed... F#()*#()*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most of it is down to the metal.

I was at a friend's house this week while a party was going on at another house (I thought it was a little kid birthday party, but now I'm not so sure). I'm going over to the house now to talk to whoever lives there. If I dont post ever again on this site, it is probably because I'm in jail for beating the s#*()$ outta someone.

That sucks. When my X was red someone keyed it. Touch-ups just made it worse. After getting it painted black, not even 3 weeks after, someone else keyed it. Save yourself the hassle and just get those places repainted. I don't see how you would prove who keyed it, but if the neighbor helps than you're very lucky.

that really sucks.
Good news is most insurance companies will cover the repair.
Minus your deductable of course.

Wish I would've known that! Oh well.. Scratches and I are good friends now ;)

Its bad news when you involve your insurance company. Your premiums go up so you eventually pay for the damage in the long run.

It is pretty rare on this type of claim that some ones rates go up.
It is the you are at fault stuff that causes that.

Monmix I beg to differ
In The past year, My daughters windshield was replaced via allstate, we had an oaktree fall over and caused 3 grand worth of damage, paid for by allstate, first claims we ever had in 25 yrs with allstate, none of which we were at fault claims.
Allstate cancelled my homeowners policy and at this time We have been forced to get insurance thru the state to satisfy the mortgage lender, this is costing me far in excess of 3 grand per yr over the old rates, should have kept my mouth shut.
Insurance companys have lost there butts in the past several yrs due to the downfall of the stock market, if thay can ****can you as a customer they will in a heartbeat

Each state has different rules governing insurance companies. Best bet is to call your agent & ask.

Frankly, I think if anyone gets caught intentionally keying a car, it should be either life in prison with a cellmate named Bubba, or simple death by stoning. (ok ok I exxagerate but MAN nothing pisses me off more than to have a nice paint job keyed by some little jerk with nothing better to do and 50 cents in his pocket.)

Spindlecone,
Note that I said rare.
I am quite sure it happens.

Monmix
In My state, has happend to 50% of the people I know, got a shake roof? your dogmeat, got a big dog? same, got big trees on your property, same, heat your house in the winter with deisel #2 as I do, got an in ground tank? same ****, got a basement, got Radon gas, same, got mold, sameshit, my house is 80 yrs old, insurance company wants to no if anyone has ever died in my house, yea my parents did, whats the big deal?

i wounder what happened to Hydro, he hasnt replyed yet, hope he didnt get him slef into any trouble, but that does suck it happened man.... :fire:

lol I'm still here. I went around the neighborhood where my friend lives... some old guy there admitted to putting the beer cans on my running board (I always park infront of his house or near his house when I visit my friend) and he thought I was the one littering in his yard. He didn't say anything about keying though (he said all this before he knew it was my car).

The more I think about it, the more I think it was him.... but of course I have no way to prove any of it.

There was also some party going on that night... talked to a friend of the guy who held it (the house owner wasn't home) and he said that they dont drink or do stupid **** like that... it was a LAN party (computer party for you old people) so I dont think the crowd there would exactly fit the car keying type...

I was just thinking about that old guy as I was typing this... and he didn't even seem sympathetic when I mentioned the keying... although he did say that he was sorry for putting the beer cans on my car.

I just dont know.

Right now I'm at a crossroads, because the keyed parts look crappy, which makes the whole car look crappy. It is 10 years old and I know it has to last me ATLEAST 4 more years. The paint was almost perfect up till now. I just dont think I'm going to put that much money into it anymore. Which is a shame because it's my baby.. :banghead: . =(

Take a bat to the old dudes car. He did it!

Wow, that really sucks. I would have a mad wacko attack if my Ex got keyed. I hope you find the loser that did this. :(

There are way too many a$$holes in this world.

you've got keys too, put a nice big line down the side of his car, and then see if he asks you about it....if he was putting beer cans on your car, he did it....

go CSI style. carefully examine every can and see if there is any pain on them , if there is u got that *****!

You should have had a recorder on you when you asked him about it. Then maybe you could have sued him? Just like snowburns said, if he was putting cans on your car, he could easily be responsible.
