au01st - I do think the gauge looks much better than mine, and has more features. I'll probably get one in the future, but this one will work for what I'm trying to accomplish.

Or you could use a Livewire and log your a/f's and boost! I am currently trying one out and I seem to really like it. Don't know if I will stay with it,as I am primarily trying to evaluate the product and be familiar so I can answer my customers questions.

I've done all that weight reduction, plus some. I'm looking even deeper than this. Like the brackets holding things in place. Now, I know not to go cutting on something that is load bearing, but I think there's ways to lighten up the load. It sounds like a lot of work for nothing but I think it can't hurt, and I like doing things like this.

You know that big bracket behind the rear bumper? Well, I'm thinking about this one......I've already got rid of the bracket holding the spare tire in place, the wire and pulley for the spare...so on and so forth. Heck, i even took out the rear winsheild wiper motor, which wasn't very heavy, but you can see what I've thought about. God forbid anyone rear ending me.

My truck is fat, fat, fat!!! I added weight with the turbo, trans, meth, controller, etc. I would really hate to put mine on a scale. I will tell you this I am surprised by how fast it is by how heavy I speculate it is. BTW did I tell you my truck is fat?

Fat or not, your power to weight ratio has to pretty good to go as fast as you are.

I would like to see your truck with a 1/4" timeslip. The conversion thing is good but I think it would be more exciting to see a slip in the high 11'S low 12's with a v6 exporer, stock internals?

James' Explorer should be around a mid 12 to possibly lower 12's in the 1/4 mile. Still fast for a V6!

By the way, what the hell is a "power to rate ratio"?

AKA...Power to weight ratio....opps...

James, curious, have you had your lower intake off yet? I have a vacuum leak still I believe, and it wasn't above my lower intake. I never messed with the PCV hose which attaches under the lower intake.

I wonder what that connection looks like, whether it's possible that I have a leak there. Otherwise I need to hunt for another cause. My 99 truck has not started on the first turn of the key, since the one month point(sometimes it will start on first try, but rarely). It is almost always the third attempt that works. I intermittently throw a 0174 and 0171 code, and rarely a 1000 and 0186 code. The engine is weak throughout the range, it feels like an OHV 4.0 basically. Thanks for any thoughts,

I don't know about James but I've had the intakes off. The connector looks like a box down under the lower intake.

Have you tried spraying carb cleaner or something in that general direction to see if the idle changes?

Another thought.

I have a small problem with my truck. Sometimes it takes two cranks for it to idle properly. I know exactly what it is; It's the IAC valve. I cleaned it a couple of weeks ago, and the problem when a way for about 3 days, then slowly returned, but not as bad. I probably need to replace, or clean better.

I had sprayed carb cleaner etal, several things, with no changes in running. Accessing that under lower area is hard, so it still could be my issue. There is just no space behind the PCV valve for a hand, to feel for anything.

Yes, it's a tight spot. The hose goes down there into a plastic looking box, if my memory serves me right. I guess it's possible the thing could crack but I haven't heard of it from anyone yet.

James - Do we have any flywheel options?

Uuum, your truck doesn't have a flywheel. ;)

Don't bother messing with your flexplate anyways. No need at all to mess with it now or anywhere in the future.

Huh?.....which way did he go, which way did he go.

The thing that the starter engages is a flywheel, correct? Theres no gain from using a lighter one?

You have an automatic tranny? If so, you have a flexplate and not a flywheel.

Going to a smaller diameter (lighter) torque converter sounds interesting--

The OEM v-8 TC is 13" and about 45 lbs,

I now have a 9" that is miuch lighter--

Good call Jon, all OEM torque converters are very heavy. Quality brand TC's can gain a good bit just from being lighter.

Skip the flexplate, it is just that, a plate, nothing is lighter. Regards,

I tried to give you a hint as to what its real name is. I guess ya didn't catch that. Yes you have an auto tranny so a flexplate is what you have. Manual tranny cars have flywheels. ;)

No gain from it as flexplates are already light as all hell.

Usually you will see people going with a heavier flywheel than anything to retain torque. The lighter ones do rev faster though.

I haven't seen any aftermarket converters for the 5r55e?

Thanks for clarifying the flywheel / flex plate for me. ;)
