besides, how would you deliberately throw it into 2nd? every ones an auto... also, imo the 4.3 is a pretty good motor. it is essentially a 350 with a couple of cylinders cut off and it has proven to be reliable in use for many vehicles as well as being able to support plenty of hp when modded and showing respectable stock numbers.

just put the lever in 2nd and it holds 2nd gear whether from a stop or until you hit redline. I don't know about yours but mine kicks down perfectly to first, then shifts to 2nd, third and then overdrive if I don't lock it out.

The 4.3 is just a POS motor, way to many problems - just look at the recalls they released for it everyday There were a few kids in my highschool that had Blazers mostly all new and they would get completley burned by our Mounty, and so far any Blazer I've raced could just keep up with my 94' with less power and torque. Plus I've heard two with flowmasters and god does it sound awful- not throaty at all just loud and hollow.

My sisters friend with the Sport Blazer (2dr) was a complete dog, and I saw one run at the track with some mods on it, he had complete exhaust, new roller rockers and rods, I think a different cam not sure, and an intake - he could only run a 16.8 with all those mods and this was in a 2dr.

I also remember reading that Chevy magazine (forgot what its called) they modded up two 4.3's, one for supercharging and one n/a, they got ok numbers from the n/a version and just ok ones from the supercharged one (think they used a vortec), but they even said the 4.3 would not be reliable for this and you were better off swapping in a 350.

It's been in magazines. He's a motor head and works for a Dodge dealer as a mechanic. It is N/A and ran a 12.9 about a year ago. He has done more stuff since then and I went for a ride in it and, holy crap, we went fast and he did a very nice smoke show, too. Over this winter hes putting on twin turbos. I couldnt believe it when he said that, but he is gonna do it. Before his Dakota he had a '94 Mustang GT that ran 11's. This guy is crazy!

The R/T'S I ran against ran the same times I've seen R/T Dakotas and Durangos run when stock, slower than a 5.0. One had mopar headers and exhaust and a filter and I still beat him. Last year a friend got rid of his Durango R/T, before that he took it to the track and with all his mods he could only run about a 15.4 or somewhere around that. He's traded it on a new Lighnting, but he didn't come back this year and I talked to him 0 he did some stuff to the Lighnting but scince he lives in New York I can't go for a ride which sucks

I have the Truckin Mag here where they had a shoot-out of Dakota R/T's only one broke into the high 13's running a lot of mods and a 150 shot of NOS. All the others were running from 14's to 16's some with slicks and this was on a good track in nice wheather.

I was just not impressed by my friends Dakota R/T after all the mods he did. It does handle well, it'd lowered with a Hotchkis suspension. He has flows on it but is getting rid of them, the 5.9 is not a good sounding engine. I told him to check out Magnaflow, but I don't know how they would sound. I did here a Dakota with a CGS exhaust and it sounded bad ass but that was on a 4.7 V8.

EDIT - the R/T's guzzle like a mutha too, my friend floored his Dakota 3 times and the needle just dropped, he gets about 160 miles or so in the city.

Wow, the R/T's in your area must be different than they are in my area. Hes got dual flowmaster 40's with a custom X pipe. Its 3" all the way out, all custom made. There isnt anything I have heard in my life that sounds better than this truck. He has a stock tranny for now (which amazes me) but he did something to it so when he downshifts, it will do it at any speed. He put it in 2nd when we were doing 75mph and the rear wheels locked up and it started hopping down the road. Hes not afraid to break anything on it because he can get parts cheap and do all the work himself. He put on some sort of mopar intake manifold. He said that was the best mod he did to it, power wise. He also has a cam, headers, custom computer and I know theres more, I just dont know what it is. He hasnt been driving it lately because hes saving for the TT. He was putting a new set of tires on every 30 days or so and gets 8 mpg.

The stock Dakota R/Ts here in Phoenix are running 15.2-15.5 at Firebird. I haven't seen a stock Durango at the track.

The Dakotas run a little faster, as their lighter, and the less weight over the rear lets a good amount of wheel spin for a nice launch. But the Durango's are slower. I can't believe they could only get 5 extra hp out of the 5.9 and have to use premium. My friends Durango was easily slower than the Dakota R/T.

I just personnaly don't like them and think they could have done a lot more for the R/T package than that, my friends Dakota R/T does handle awsome though, he has a Hotchkis suspension and it is pretty damn harsh but he can take some nasty curves in it, theres an S-Curve outside my school, speed limit 35mph, we went through it at 85mph and it handled perfectly. He has the only single cab R/T where I live, the rest are extended cabs that I've seen, and in black it looks pretty nice.

Oh yeh, 98Fordx24 - he took off the flows and is running baasically staright pipes right now, holy friggen **** is it loud. Can't tell whether it's a mean note or whatever cause it so friggen loud, resonance isn't that bad inside the cab, but when he pulls up to my house things start shaking and vibrating.

I had a '00 R/T over summer before i got 2 tickets in it. I took it to the track and it ran a 15.51 stock, it was a Crew Cab. I had a TON of fun in that truck shown by the tickets haha. Talk about a smoke show when i would stomp them off the line...WOW. Also, 98FordX24, i bet that he has an M-1 intake, those are the best intake for that truck by far. For the 2 weeks that i drove that truck it was absolutely awesome, it had torque out the wazoo 330 ft/lbs, and I had a 3.92 LS rear end. The new Twin Turbo kit for those trucks is nice as hell, go to www.speedtweaks.net and you will see it. The HP numbers are low because they are still tuning it. Anyway, i thought that i would jump in and defend it a little bit not that yall are talkin bad about them. Luckily when i got the tickets in it i had not sold the X yet so i was able to keep it and sell the R/T, it was for sale from July 14 till 2 weekends ago and some kid came by and paid cash (100 $ bills), my dad said that he almost passed out when he saw that kid was carrying around 17K work of hundreds in his pants. Anyway, yall have a good one....

Too many snotballs for my taste But then there's the rare guys like you lot who I never see when I come down to visit family...My Dad flew me down to an Italian sports car owner's fest at Moroso, and I got to ride in a brand spankin new Ferrari 360 Modena...What a ride! woo woo! I know, Boca is just wack, but oh well...We only live where we do b/c we like boating and everything and we're right on the Intracoastal, hate everybody in my community except for both of our neighbors.

One of them has an 360 Modena w/ a Tubi exhaust and it screams like hell at full throttle. He has an order in for a new Murcialago, so hopefully I'll get to go for a ride. He also has a Excursion moddified by Banks that seriously hauls, ran low 14's at Morosso. He also has an older 308 but is selling it cause maintanence is like 15,000 - 30,000 a year.

The other has a modded S4 thats sick fast and a nice 02' Explorer. And thats all I talk to, the kids in here are stuck up as hell driving their Aston Martins and other crap

hell yeh, I know my family is very well off, but we do not show off or anything at all, my 1st car was the 94' Explorer while everyone else in here was getting Porsche's, M3'S, M5'S, some kids have Ferrari's - which really pisses my neighbor off (who has the 360 Modena). The only time you'd every think we had money is if you saw our house or boats and everything in the back.

It's like the people in here think it's disgraceful to drive a lowly "Explorer", they think just because we have an 8000sqft house that we should drive a Bentley or whatever, thats some BS! My mom only has a 00' 5.0 Mounty, and some of you on here are younger and have a newer vehicle than hers.

She can't see spending all that money for like a Rover or whatever, she loves her Mounty. Infact so much, that when she went to trade her 97' Mounty in, she wanted to buy an 02' but they didn't have any left and she didn't want to wait so she bought this white 00' Mounty we have now right on the spot.

It's mad funny when our cars are in the shop, and the dealer gives us a Lincoln LS or 03' Navigator to use, and she can't wait to get back in her Mounty.

oh, by the way, where did you live in Palm Beach? Was it in Boca, if so, you probably know how bad it is here

You know, every time I'm down there I'm watching for interesting cars and I always forget to look at the street signs, lol. I think my Dad lives near a Pontiac dealer, if that makes any sense. His neighborhood has really gone downhill lately, but it's more because of an influx of scum then snotballs. I know my Aunt, who lives in Jupiter, is two houses down from Burt Reynolds (who is really funny in person). I just ask my brother to drive me to the nearest Lamborghini dealer and spend the next day or two drooling on the window Maybe next time I'll drive Blackjack down or put him on the auto train...
